Chapter 1

Naruto POV:

I took one final look around the room checking for anymore of my personal items. When I saw none I nodded my head and hiked my bag up higher on my shoulder and walked out of the room, key in hand.

"Naruto!" Looked up from my bag into the forest green eyes of my partner in crime.

"Sakura, hey." I walked up and she flashed me a nice smile. I smiled back, just not as bright. I could tell she noticed.

"So?" She asked raising and eyebrow. I raised one back in confusion.

"So what?" I asked tilting my head. She rolled her eyes asked gave me a smack to the shoulder as we continued to walk down the hallway to meet with Kakashi-sensei.

"So, how are you? " I just chuckled and gave her a look.

"You just saw me yesterday, we've lived down the hall from each other for the past month. I think you of all people would know how I am. " I bumped her shoulder with mine and gave her a smile, but she did not return the playful gesture.

"You know you don't tell me everything. " She said without looking at me. I wanted to say something, but nothing came to mind. Because she was right.

We left the hotel in silence and walked out to the street corner where Kakashi stood waiting for us.

"Ready to go?" He said as our cab pulled up behind him. We both nodded and I allowed Sakura to slide into the cab first followed by my teacher. I was about to slide in next when someone called my name, catching my attention. I looked up and felt my heart splat against the pavement at my feet. My 'dear' Romeo was jogging up to us and stopped a few inches away from me. I could feel my hands shaking as one held the cab door open and the other held my bag.

"Hey baby." He said leaning in close and pressing a kiss to my temple. I had to force myself not to flinch and schooled my body into acting accordingly.

"Where are you off too?" He asked wrapping an arm around my waist and squeezing my hip tightly as a warning.

"Home. Our mission here is complete so I can finally head back to my own place. " I felt proud about keeping my voice calm in front of the others. I don't know why I was subtly protecting him, hell, it would be in my favor if someone found out what this man has been doing to me. Maybe it was my own pride. The fact that I have become so weak and dependent that I just laid back and let myself be tormented, without putting up a fight. I was embarrassed, no, more like humiliated by that fact.

"Oh." He said in a very disinterested tone. He didn't really care where I was going. He cared that I didn't tell him this ahead of time. If he had known he would have probably been in my apartment long before I ever got there.

"Well how about you let me give you a ride." What. What?!

"My car is just down the block. " He gave my hip another tight squeeze. He wasn't offering me a ride. He was telling me to get in his car. Daring me to try and say no to him.

"Sure. Sounds great." I forced myself to smile warmly at him, a smile in which he returned.

"You sure Naruto? " Sakura said leaning over Kakashi a bit towards me.

"Yeah, you guys go ahead. I'll catch up with you later." If I can get away. She just shrugged and sat back in her seat. I closed the cab door and watched the vehicle drive off allowing utter dread and fear to fill my chest.

"Let's go." He said it friendly enough so that anyone within ear-shot wouldn't think anything of it. But I knew better than to fall for it. I just kept my mouth shut and nodded my head, letting him pull me along towards his car. Once there he opened my door for me and threw my bag in the backseat. The interior of the car smelled bitterly of cigarettes, but thankfully no alcohol. He hadn't been drinking which was a sign he was in a good enough mood as long as I didn't really speak and kept my head down. He closed my door and walked around the hood of the car. I lowered my head but let my eyes take a quick glance around the car, my eyes falling on one button that made my heart stutter.
