"Damon if you truly love me you'll drink my blood and let yourself become one of me so we can be together forever," said Katherine to Damon.
"I will drink your blood to be with you forever,I love you Katherine," said Damon.
Soon after he drank her blood Katherine was captured by the council, who's main focus was to capture vampires and kill them. When Damon found out about the capture he was devastated. In an attempt to rescue her Damon got himself killed. He was shot but the blood that he drank, Katherine's blood, brought him back to life but not as a human but as a vampire.
