Grace

I walked down the street of the Bakers after going to the florist and picking out a ramillet of daisies, hoping they would like them better than roses, since I knew Hannah hated them. I put my phone on silence and walked up the steps to their house. I breathed deeply and tried to calm my nerves before knocking on the door.

"Grace?" A soft voice called my name and I turned to see Mrs. Baker walking up the steps of the porch with a bag on her hands.

"H-hi Mrs. Baker, I just wanted to come by and see how you were both doing, bring you some flowers too" I smiled shyly and she gave me a soft smile.

"Oh sweetie thats so nice of you. Please come in" She said, opening the door to her house. I smiled and followed her inside, looking around the place. Seemed so familiar, yet so different at the same time.

I had hung out a few times with Hannah at her place, and now coming in without her being here was like, the house was a whole new one. "Should I put the flowers in water?" I asked her gently, not wanting to be rude, and doubting for a second if she liked them or not.

"Yeah please, they are beautiful. You are actually one of the only people that didnt bring roses" She said, glancing at the sitting room table, that I just realized had a few ramillets of roses. I smiled before heading to the kitchen and quickly filling a small empty vase I found on the counter with water for the flowers. "Would you like something to drink Grace? Oh, almost forgot, I made some brownies on Friday, let me just bring them out " She said, before getting up from the couch when I went back to sit with her. I smiled and laughed a little.

"Some water would be nice Mrs. Baker, but yeah, I would love to try your brownies. I love brownies" I told her smiling, not wanting to be rude and just decline, eventhough I wasnt very hungry. She nodded and walked to the kitchen, so I took my phone out to check on Justin, since he had gone home.

ME: Hey J, I went out for a walk and decided to visit the Bakers for a while. Want to meet up after I leave?

"So, the brownies arent perfect, but, you can judge them for yourself" Mrs. Baker walked in the sitting room again, placing a tray on the small table with her coffee, my glass of water and a plate with brownies. I smiled and took a piece, biting it softly.

Those were some good brownies.

"Mrs. Baker" I started when I had finished the piece "These are incredible, really" She laughed and sipped on her coffee before speaking again

"Grace, honey how many times have I told you to call me Olivia?" She said before shaking her head, her eyes going sad "You know, Hannah really liked you" She said, smiling sadly at me. My heart clenched and I left the glass on the table.

"I really liked her too, she was a good friend" I breathed out as I played with my fingers. "I never, never imagined she would go through anything so bad, s-she would-" I stopped, not wanting to say it. She looked at me as a tear fell from her eye and I prayed I wouldnt start shedding tears too.

"Did she ever, ever mention having problems with your classmates, or anyone in general?" I shook my head, knowing I couldnt tell her anything, not about the pictures, the list, Zach.... not because I wanted to keep it from her, but I knew it wouldnt go well and besides, it wasnt my story to tell.
