Family

The first thing Nico says as he bursts through the Hades cabin to see Leo is surprising, to say the least.

As he slams the door, he declares, "We're going to come out together." Leo deapans.

"Uh, sure, but... what exactly brought this on?"

Nico sighs and takes a seat on the leather couch next to his boyfriend. "Yesterday I told Hazel about us. She was really okay with it! It made me realize that our friends aren't going to judge us for our sexualities if they really are our friends. And if they don't-"

"If they don't, then fuck them!"

"Not my first choice of words, but sure. Will you do this with me?" Nico starts to fidget with his jean pockets nervously. He knows Leo will help him in any way, but it's still a little worrisome on how he'll react.

Leo doesn't need to hesitate. He goes right into a hug with the son of Hades, saying, "Of course, of course. Anything you want, Nico."

 They're sitting at the campfire quietly, a nervous look on Nico's pale features. 

"Man, it's cold," he says, making Leo's eyebrows raise.

"You? Cold? I'd figure you'd like being in your natural condition." the son of Hephaestus teases. Nico scowls.

"Hey, don't think you get a free pass making fun of me just because you're my boyfriend."

Leo gasps. "Nico! How could you say that? I'd never make fun of you. You're too precious."

Nico's face only reddens.

All the campers turn their attention to Chiron as he makes his way forward. "A couple of our campers have an announcement to make, it seems. Please give your attention to Nico di Angelo and Leo Valdez." he says it like he's kind of confused. Quite frankly, he's never really seen them interact until recently.

Nico clears his throat and stands. Leo follows soon after. "Um, well... I was scared about saying this, actually, but then I realized it can't be any more terrifying than killing titans or losing a sibling. I shouldn't even make a big deal about it. So, here goes... I'm... I'm gay. I know it's not a great revelation or anything, but I wanted you to know. If you hate me now, I-"

Annabeth interrupts him. "Woah, woah, wait a minute- why would we hate you, Nico?"

"Well, I mean-"

Percy stands up. "Yeah! We're pretty much family. We won't think any differently of you."

"Even if you were pregnant with Mitt Romney's child, Nico. We're never going to stop loving you." Piper adds.

Nico smiles slightly. "Guys... thank you."

"But really, if you aren't okay with it, get the fuck out forever. Also, I'm not gay. I'm bi. But also pretty gay." Leo crosses his arms. Nico pats him on the back as if to tell him to nicely shut up. 

"Anyway... I just want everything to go on normally. Wow, I feel a lot better now." Nico sits back down, and everyone goes back to those too-catchy songs he used to hate.

"You wanna spend the night?" Leo nonchalantly asks as he tosses his jacket on the floor of the Hades cabin.

Nico flushes. "Leo, what the hell? I'm 14-!"

"Relax, mi primer amor. I don't want any funny stuff. I'm just really tired, you know. And I'm pretty sure Hazel is still on her Frankation. So let's do it. Well, not it, but just, you know, sleep." Leo blushes too after the last part.

Nico nods slowly, a look of shock still lingering on his face. "Yeah... okay. But just remember, no funny stuff. I'm gonna go get ready." he slips out of the room almost instantly. Leo never can get used to how he can go unnoticed in any situation he pleases. While he's waiting, he decides to snoop around a little. The first thing he notices is the picture frame on his nightstand. He immediately regrets the prior snooping. It's obviously Bianca, Nico's late big sister. Easy to tell. She's got the same pale skin, silky raven hair, and those brown eyes that make him melt. A wave of guilt washes over him. How would he feel if he lost any of his half-siblings? Terrible, that's for sure. Nico was so young... it's no wonder he used to be such a wreck. Leo immediately turns away from the photograph once he hears Nico's bathroom door open.

"You okay?" Wow, Nico looks adorable. His hair is all messy, and his MCR shirt is faded and way too big. 

"Uh, yeah," Leo manages, trying not to stare too hard. "Can I borrow a shirt to sleep in?"

Nico nods. "Sure." he walks over to his dresser and pulls out another oversized t-shirt. Leo can't quite tell what it has on it, but it's cotton-y soft. It smells like vanilla. Like Nico. It's possibly the most comforting article of clothing in existence.

Suddenly, Leo pulls Nico into his arms and plants a kiss on his soft lips.

Nico reacts immediately, his heart picking up speed. Leo pulls away as quickly as he went in, unfortunately. Nico frowns. "What was that for?"

Leo shrugs with a grin. "I dunno. You're just so cute in that shirt."

"You're a dork."

"I know."

Leo tries to spend the night with happy thoughts. It's supposed to be happy thoughts, right? With his amazing boyfriend curled right up next to him, the mere sound of his steady breathing nearly putting him to sleep- that's good, isn't it? All he can think about, though, is the possibility of losing him. Demigods often die young. There's almost no chance either of them will survive another big battle. 

Leo's fingers lightly trace a scar along Nico's hand. He remembers when he got that scar extremely clearly. The 7 and Nico were fighting monsters left and right. There was no time to do anything other than slash your respective knife or sword. Nico wasn't the luckiest in the group. The gorgon grabbed his sword and used it against him, forcing it into his hand. Leo was the one to help him.

With a sigh, the son of Hephaestus shakes away the memory and slowly drifts off to sleep.
