Misaki's POV

"Finally. It's December! This is the year for presents to be given!" I can finally give the gift I wanted to give for a long time...a Christmas cake. Recently, I have been on and off my brother's laptop, searching videos of the perfect Christmas cake. I wanted to try baking to help me in the future and to eat many delicious treats. My parents would normally buy the cake from the store but this year will be different.

I found the perfect recipe that will surely brighten their Christmas. The cake takes about three hours to make and that is plenty of time to prepare it and bake it. My parents normally take four hours shopping for my presents and Takahiro's. So the least I could do was make something while I'm waiting.

I do need Takahiro to help me with the oven just in case. I just don't want to spoil the surprise and knowing him, he would say something. I mentally faceplam myself at the thought of my brother's big mouth.

Anyways, I enjoy December so much. It's not because of the presents or the cake; it's about the time I get to spend with my family. Spending time with them was always fun and enjoyable. We normally would go to the Christmas festival that is held each year. Sparkly décor always filled the streets as well as many delicious treats. It would always snow during the festival, which made it even more fun. There was also the New Year's parade which lasted twice as long. They were always really fun and laughable.

The occasional snow was also fun because we would make snowmen. We would chat first before building. When I see we were getting nowhere, I would always yell "Alright! Let's make a snowman for real!"

We also had snow fights with each other. I would always win thanks to my small size to fit behind the small fortress. After dong that, we would then have some hot chocolate and have the Christmas cake the day before Christmas. After the day has passed, it would be Christmas day, where piles of presents from distant family members were given. I would normally have nothing to give but this year would be different!

I only had one week of school left before it was officially winter break. "Oi. Misaki!" I turn back to see my friend Shinobu. He has gray eyes with brown hair and was about my height. "Did you read that new book yet?" He asks. "Yeah, but it was pretty difficult because of the kanji in it." I rub the back of my neck in embarrassment at those words. "I attempted to read the English version but it was too much for me."

"English isn't that hard." He says with pride.

"Says the one who just came back from Australia. Of course it would be easy for you. You know more English than I do. The only word I know is 'Thank you.'" It's true; that is the only word I know.

"Did you learn that in the book?"

"No. My brother's friend taught me how to say it and what it meant but...he's really weird. He smiles at everything my brother says and they seem pretty close. Apparently, he was born in some place called 'England' wherever that is and is fluent at English, as well as Japanese."
