A small nervous sigh left the young woman's mouth as she gripped the straps on her book bag. She had just came home from school, wishing it wasn't her senior year so she still had a place to go to so she could stay away from the very place she was supposed to call her house. Those seven hours were her heaven, quite the opposite of what most young adults her age would call the place; But they don't have the life she did, nor did they want it..
"Mother...Father...I'm home," She announced as she walked into the living room, making sure the door didn't slam behind her. She took her shoes off at the door, after not hearing a reply she tried to sneak up the stairs to her room or better known as the attic. Just as she placed her foot on the steps, she heard someone cleared their throat behind her. She froze in her steps, feeling the blood drain from her face.
"And where do you think you're going?" A male voice chimed in. The young woman turned to face her father, not looking at him in the eyes. "Well, you know what I want.." He held out his hand, a stern look on his face.
"It's better if you get it over with, (Y/n).." Her mother added as she walked into the room from the kitchen and sat down on the couch. (Y/n) looked to her mother with pleading eyes, there was a time she helped her against her drunk of a father. But after he sent her to the hospital with a concussion, (M/n) stopped and instead joined in on the torture. With shaky hands, the girl took her book bag off slowly. She knew what was about to happen, but she never seen it as fair. The father snatched the bag off of her, making (Y/n) fall to the floor from the force he grabbed at the bag. He dug through it, tossing any stray paper out that didn't say anything about grades on it. Once he found it, he read through it before throwing the bag at her along with the paper.
"What the hell is this?! I knew you were stupid but come on!" He exclaimed as he pulled the girl up by the strings of her hoodie. Her cheek was already red from where one of her books hit her as it was flung out of it. She winced as he dragged her off the floor and with past experiences she knew to just be quiet, she tried to defend herself once before. That ended with a nasty bruise she had to hide for a week.
He dropped her harshly as he realized she wasn't going to speak, "Pick up this mess and go to your room. You can forget about dinner tonight," he huffed before going to the kitchen and grabbing a beer out of the fridge. (Y/n) did as she was told, giving her mother a glare when she realized she was watching her clean up the mess her father made. The woman just shook her head before turning on the tv and turning her head to that.
'Go to hell, the both of you..' (Y/n) thought to herself before slinging her bag onto her back and quickly going to her room. If she could lock the door, she would and never unlock it again. 'I'm so done with all of this...' she couldn't think aloud due to how thin the house was. She looked in her drawer that she hid her money in, grabbing all of it and stuffing it into her book bag. It was supposed to be for an apartment but with how little her job payed her and whatever her so called parents deemed their own she would never have enough. But, she had to get out of there even if she had to live on the streets. She threw any decent clothes she had into her bag as well, which wasn't a lot since she either had to buy her own clothes or use whatever her mom couldn't fit.
She pulled out the rope she had hidden under her mattress, tying one end to the desk she had by the window for this reason. Before throwing the other end out of the window, she threw on her work shoes which were some black sneakers. Once she had those on she crawled out of her window and went down the side of the house, the rope untying itself as she was mostly the way down. She landed on her behind with a thud, wincing from the sudden pain that went through her tail bone and up to her back. She quickly got up, rubbing her back before taking off towards town but she couldn't stop the feeling that she was being watched.
