It has been sometime now since Bilbo had gone into the mountain to steal the Arkenstone. You were perfectly aware that it might take sometime for your little hobbit friend to dig through all that treasure while at the same time not wakening the dragon, but something just seemed off. You grasped onto the handle of the sword that you had hanging off your belt. Did you really want to go down there, and see if he was okay. After all, you were just a human, according to Thorin. But quite a skillful one as well.
The only reason you were up on the lonely mountain with them was because you were very much familiar with it. You were just a young and adventurous woman from Esgaroth, and grew up exploring and scaling the mountain. The townspeople were scared for your life - legends had it that the dragon who took over the mountain came out every once in a while to snatch up some poor humans, and eat them for supper. But you weren't afraid the dragon, you didn't want to let those legends ruin your journeys around the mountain. You also were quite skillful with a sword, and used the one that had been passed down in your families for generations. In their stay in Esgaroth, Bilbo thought you would be an amazing help, and convinced Thorin and the dwarves to bring you along. So here you were, debating whether or not to go after Bilbo, and see if he needed any help. You finally decided that even if this was the last adventure you would ever have, it meant more to go and save one of your only friends while at it.
You slowly scooted away from the group of dwarves, who kept cheering amongst themselves about how they'll soon have their mountain back. Finally, you rounded the corner, and waited a few moments, holding your breath and waiting to see if they took any notice. They didn't seem to, slow you let out a quiet sigh of relief, and started to make your way down the stone steps, deeper into the mountain.
You were almost there when you heard a deep rumbling in the distance, and the whole place started to shake like crazy. You gripped the wall, stumbling to regain your balance. 'Oh no, He's awakened the dragon!' you thought, horrifying thoughts entering your mind. More desperate and determined than ever, you started you make your way down the stairs, faster than before.
You finally made it to the bottom, and a sight that you have never seen in your entire life was before you. Mountains and mountains of precious gems and gold piled around the entire area, covering the floor like an ocean. 'No wonder Bilbo's having such a hard time finding that stone!' you thought, staring in awe at the shining treasure. But you had no time to gaze upon the riches of this mountain. You had to find Bilbo, and fast. Before he was burned to an ash by the dragon. You considered calling out his name, but immediately erased that dumb idea from your mind. That will only end up with you being fried for supper. You decided the best way to do this was to somehow find Bilbo, and sneak out of this place. Or possibly run for your life, if you really had to. You drew your sword, and started to make your way through the piles of gold. You stiffened, and held your breath as the coins slid down the mountain, making a tinking-like noise. Then, you heard him. The deep and booming voice of Smaug the terrible.
Smaug's voice was coming from you left, so you guessed you should start heading that way to find Bilbo. He was definitely talking to someone, he sounded like he directing whatever he was saying to most likely Bilbo. The racing of thoughts in your mind prevented you from making out the words he spoke, all you could think about was a more strategic way to save Bilbo. The Arkenstone didn't matter to you anymore, not that it did in the first place. Smaug's roaring drowned out the tinking sounds of the coins, which was helpful. Every once in a while, you'd duck behind a pillar, making sure he wouldn't see you, even though you couldn't see him yet. Finally, you saw him, towering over a stuttering Bilbo Baggins. Terror filled your mind as you ducked back behind the pillar, sinking to the ground. How were you going to do this? How were you possibly going to save your friend, and face a huge deadly dragon? Then, you heard Smaug roar about a barrelrider or something like that, and you saw the reflection of a fiery glow against some of the treasure. You gulped, and held back tears, sure that your sweet little friend was toast. But you weren't going to let that stop you from standing up against that dragon. There had to be some way to destroy him, but you weren't so sure. What ever he did, you wouldn't let him attack your home town.
