You guys will hate me at the end of this chapter so get your knives/pitchforks ready.

Most girls in the fictional world would be screaming, "breathing quickly" or "accepting their fate". But this is the real world. And in the real world, I was having a panic attack.

If I tried to describe a panic attack, it wouldn't even put it into perspective. You lose control over your thoughts, only feeling the body take over. Pain was jarring up my back severely. So much that I couldn't even move. My chest was aching from the lack of oxygen passing in and out. My mouth was overwatering and silent tears were falling out of my eyes. But I was helpless to stop any of it. My body was controlling me with so much pain that I couldn't even lift a finger.

I could have been in that position for just a second. I could have been in that position for hours. But it felt like forever. Until... snap. It all just disappeared.

I looked up with wide eyes. I rolled my shoulders back and forth. I was... fine?

Lady Artemis smiled down at me.

I stood up slowly and kept my voice level and steady, "I'm sorry if we've miscommunicated here... but I don't want to get involved in this world any further."

I tried to turn away but someone yanked on my arm, pulling me into the seat. I glared at Tommy. He glared back.

I tried to stand up again but his voice came out harsh and cold, "Sit, Emma. I'm not playing games here. This is real life and if you walk away you leave me and Jace in the dust."

"What?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"If you've been selected as my Luna," he continued, "No one else can. A pack isn't a pack without a Luna."

"So go Rogue?" I shrugged, "I don't want or need to be involved in this."

"We were Rogue for three and a half years," Tommy emphasised, "And it was torture. Especially coming home to find my pack had been slaughtered. Everyone in my family dead. Rogues have no connection to the world. And I hate it. I hate it so much it makes me sick. So I need you to become the Luna or I'll do something insane."

He was placing his life on me?

I slowly looked to Diana, who seemed oddly at ease with the scenario. I nodded slowly, "I'll become the Luna."

"Hey, baby," he grinned from the porch.

I stared at him blankly. With one fluid movement, I slammed the door in his face. I heard Mum's laugh from the kitchen doorway.

I glanced over my shoulder at her, giving a satisfied grin.

There was a knock on the door. I opened it with a raised eyebrow.

"What did I do?" Justin asked hurriedly.

"Do you want me to make you a list?" I grinned sarcastically before slamming the door again but this time he stopped it with his arm.

"Seriously, what's wrong?" Justin asked, grimacing.

"Other than you cheated on me with Bella?" I asked rhetorically, "Nothing I can think of. Except you lied to me about it."

"It was a mistake," Justin explained, "I had no idea I was leading her on."

"How do you accidentally lead on your girlfriend's best friend for six months, Justin?" I crossed my arms, finally feeling the tears prick through, "Go. Just go."

"Let me make it up to you?" he pleaded, "Please, Em."

I glared at him, "We're through, Justin."

And with that, I closed the door.

Mum smiled at me, "I'm proud of-"

My phone ringing cut her off. I picked it up, expecting it to be Justin. The Caller ID read bw <3. I turned my nose up at it and placed it on the coffee table.

Bella Welsh can go stuff herself.

"Mum," I changed the subject, "I have something important to tell you."

Her expression changed to her serious.

I took a deep breath and continued, "Two werewolves came back to town the other day."

"Oh, I already know that," Mum lightened up, "Tommy James and Jace Collins? Poor kids..."

"Mum," I stopped her with wide eyes, "Today, they made me their Luna."

She dropped the Tupperware container she was holding. It crashed to the floor. Mum slowly picked it up and then looked at me with a vacant expression. She sighed, "Well... not much we can do about that."

"What?"

"I know how this werewolf thing works; I pay attention to the news," Mum chuckled, "If you're the Luna... you're the Luna."

"You have no problems with this?" I squeaked.

"Oh, I have a problem with it," she answered, "But there's not anything for me to do about it... except..."

"Except what?" I asked after she trailed off.

"Invite them for dinner," Mum concluded, making up her mind, "I need to meet the two boys my daughter will be revolving her life around."

I scoffed - one at my mum's attitude and two at her statement - and replied, "I won't be revolving my life around them, Mum."

Mum pressed her lips together, "You haven't heard the news from today have you?"

"What news?"

***

As of 9:30am, 28th of May, 2045, the international governments have come together to create a new, safe law for the world. All werewolf packs must now live in a secluded location, out of people's way. Packs are allowed to communicate with each other and family but no others. The government will be in charge of resources and wants from all werewolves and druids. To keep the population steady, the Beta and his mate are only allowed two children and the Alpha and the Luna are only allowed two children. All werewolf cubs must be handed to the government when they turn sixteen so they can properly create working packs. Any packs found to disobey any of the above rules will be imprisoned.

"Mum?" I looked up at her with tear-rimmed eyes, "I-I..."

"I love you too, sweetie."

And when she hugged me as though everything was good in the world... I knew it was our goodbye.
