We reach the end of the passage and walk into what looks like a receptionist area. We walk past a woman who is clearly human. "Does she know?" I mumble to Shawn.
"Yes, she wants to become one," he explains to me. We continue down a long corridor and we pause in front of a pair of huge doors. Jillian and Ryan push them open and we walk into a huge room that looks as if there's a swimming pool in the centre that's not filled with water.
I notice two men and a woman sitting in huge chairs but the one in the middle is the largest. The woman is sitting in that chair, the leader I assume. "Ahh, Shawn. Have you thought about my offer?" she says.
"Not at all Taylor," he says angrily. She looks frustrated but turns her attention to me. "You must be Kaitlyn, I have to say, you smell wonderful."
"Thank you?" I furrow my brows.
"Well, since you know about us, I'm so sorry to say that we do have to kill you but I would like to test a little theory first." I swallow and nod my head.
"I know that Shawn's power doesn't work on you but I would like to try." She holds out her hand and I give her mine.
"What exactly are you doing?" I ask her.
"Well, I can read minds like Shawn but by touch and not just what they're thinking at that time but every thought you've ever had. Strange, I can't seem to get anything from you." I smile, because she can't read my mind. She snaps her fingers and Ryan steps forward.
"Don't you dare!" Shawn shouts as he steps in front of me. He then falls to his knees, in pain.
"Stop! Stop it! Kill me, hurt me, whatever you want, just leave him alone!" I yell, hoping they'll stop. She snaps again and when Ryan looks away, Shawn isn't in pain anymore.
"You would give your life, for one of us?" Taylor says. I nod my head and she laughs. "Go ahead Ryan." He looks at me but nothing happens, no pain.
"Well, well, you'd make an interesting vampire," she says pacing back and forth. She motions for the other two men to join her. She points to the one with short red hair and says his name is Deryk. The other one with pale blond, shoulder length hair is Sam.
"Well, we could change her," Sam suggests.
"Absolutely not, we have strict laws for a reason," Deryk argues. Then Georgie walks up to Taylor.
"She will be one of us, I've seen it," she says. Taylor grabs her hand and when she lets go, smiles over at me.
"But he feels so strongly that she remain human," she protests.
"I'll change her myself Taylor." She thought about it for a quick second.
"All right," she agrees.
"We will check up to make sure though," Deryk warns us.
"Trust me, it will be done," Georgie reassures them.
"Goodbye, Kaitlyn," Taylor says all too happily. Shawn grabs me and puts me onto his back. We walk out the big doors with Jillian right behind us.
"You can wait here until the sun sets," she tells us but her focus is on a group of people. The woman in front is carefully avoiding the sunlight and I notice her eyes are purple. She's wearing blue contacts. "What's going to happen to them?"
"I think you already know," Shawn whispers in my ear. I turn to face him and he's looking at me too.
"I love you Shawn. When you left, I had a hole in my chest and it hurt not only emotionally but physically," I lecture him.
He looks at me with pain in his eyes. "I love you too Kaitlyn and I didn't mean to hurt you."
"Promise me that you will never leave me again," I beg him.
"I don't know if I have the strength to, I was probably going to come back to Forks in another month or two because it hurt me to stay away from you too. I promise I won't leave you unless you ask me to," he promises.
"Never, I never want you to leave me again," I say into his chest. He lifts my head up by the chin and places a soft kiss on my lips. I didn't realize how much I missed him. My reaction surprised both of us. I wrap my arms around his neck and knot my fingers in his hair. I pull his face closer, deepening the kiss. This time he surrenders and gives in to the kiss.
He finally pulls away but I didn't want him too but then I realize I'm gasping for air. "That was amazing," I say when my breathing calms down enough to talk.
"I love you Kaitlyn Little, say you'll marry me," he asks, but it comes out like he said it.
"Marry you? I'm only 18 Shawn," I argue. Plus people will just think I got knocked up.
"So? People used to get married younger than that," he says.
"Yes but times change. People will think I'm pregnant!" I whisper yell at him.
"So you're worried about people will think. I say forget them, I love you and I want you as my wife."
"Change me," I say.
"That's not what I want to happen to you," he complains.
"I have to be changed any way, please?" I ask, pouting my lips.
"How about this, you marry me, and I will change you," he finally says, giving in.
"That's a fair compromise." I kiss him and he smiles.
"You should get some sleep, baby," he tells me. I nod my head and I curl up into a ball on his lap, with my head resting on his chest.
