Sweat dribbled down the side of his face, the soaked tunic adhered to his chest. Blood was pounding in the ears, making him turn around every other minute.

Tick, tock.

Fastening his pace, he turned the corner in the blood-ridden street and ran head fast into another of the headless.

No, no. Please go away!

Turning the other way, his  legs flew over the cobblestones and the gore scattered all over them. Flames were spewing out of the windows and the stench of charred flesh churned his innards.

Tick, tock.

What is this sound?

A hand reached out, blackened and shriveled up, and caught hold of the tunic. Panic surged through his veins at the sight of it.

Run.

He took off again, the eyes of the burnt woman being embedded into his memory.

What is all this?

Lost.

Tick, tock.

Music, metallic, asudden, blared from one of the cracked, earthen walls and his pace slowed.

Echoes, everywhere.

Turning around, the dead end resurfaced, and the howling grew.

Hayle broke into a sweat and screamed into the pillow muffling his breath and everything else in between. The eyes hovered above him menacingly. . .
