Jen was sitting on the sidewalk. It was four in the morning, but she couldn't sleep. Pat was going to leave today on a death-filled journey.

Sylvester hopped over, a flower in his mouth. The black and white bunny dropped it at her feet. Jen smiled weakly and reached out to stroke the bunny. "Thanks, Sylvester." She held him.

"Jen?"

Jen looked up. Pat was standing behind her. He looked exhausted and gave a little yawn. "Wh-what are you doing out here? You should be asleep."

Jen stood up so quickly that Sylvester fell off her lap with a squeal. "I-I'm not tired!" She narrowed her eyes at him. "You're the one who should be asleep. You need energy for... the trip."

Pat sighs. "Well... I'm not sleepy either." He was lying; he looked pretty miserable. Jen raised her eyebrow and sat back down.

"Well, a little," Pat said. "But if I couldn't sleep if I tried."

Jen realized that they were both worrying about the same thing; that Pat would meet his death on this journey. Jen was thinking about asking him if she could go too. She kept her mouth shut. I'm not royal-class like him...

"We should go walk." Pat extended his hand hopefully.

Jen hesitated, then took it, pulling herself to her feet. "Okay." They started walking slowly down the dawn-filled street, the streetlights flickering. Jen looked over at Lizzie's house. She knew Lizzie would never have to worry about Pat dying.

"Are you okay?" Pat asked. Jen shook her head softly and admitted, "As I told you yesterday.. I don't want you to go."

Pat remained silent.

Jen pushed her way through the crowd to watch Pat's departure. When she reached the front, she saw him on a black horse. He wore full diamond armor and a diamond sword. His bag was stuffed with goods like food, water, paper and pens to write to the village.

"Pat!" She yelled before he rode away. She ran over and threw her arms around him. He hugged her back. "I'll be back before you know it, Jen."

Jen stepped back, her eyes filling with tears again. Pat hesitated. His grip on the horse's reigns loosened.

"Best of luck to you, Furious Destroyer!" the king roared, and the villagers cheered.

"Bye, Jen," Pat sighed. He turned away and the horse took off. Jen almost ran after him.

"Don't leave me, Pat," she whispered softly. Lizzy and her other friends, Mark and Jack, came over. They were cheering too.

"He probably won't return..." Mark said.

Jen couldn't do anything but nod, blinking her tears away. Don't leave me...
