He collapsed on the floor next me and we looked in each other eyes our chests coming to a slow rise and fall. When our breathing became normal we cleaned up and took a shower together then headed to bed for tomorrow is the last day in this town.
We didn't leave till later that night, we were driving down a back way when a semi swerved into us. I remember going in and out of consciousness and seeing red blinking lights. The ambulance took us to the hospital, as they pushed us both in I saw Aiden's hand hanging out of the gurney so I took it as they pushed us both down the hallway. They took us into different rooms and I passed out.
When I woke up I was really sore and hooked up to a bunch of different monitors. I started pulling them off one by one needing to see if Aiden was alright that's when a nurse came in and wouldn't let me out of the room.
"You need to sit down we still need to run a few test." He said between clenched teeth trying to keep me from leaving the room.
"Aiden I need to see Aiden!" I said trying to shoulder check the nurse out of my way only to have two more male nurses holding me down. One shot me with something that instantly calmed me down and made me a bit loopy. They laid me on the bed and watched over me.
"The drug was a very low does so it should be gone in 20 minutes." He felt my forehead "maybe 10 with the way this kid is burning up."
When i wasn't loopy the nurse started asking me some questions
"What's your name? What school do you go to? How old are you?"
"Jace Macklin, east Hampton high school, 19."
"Okay you can come in." He motioned for someone and I saw my mom walking then frantically coming to my side to give me a hug.
"My little Jace poo" she grabbed my cheeks "what happened? Are you okay? Are you allowed to come home? Where's Aiden ?"
I looked up at the nurse with hopeful eyes.
"Where's my boyfriend?" I said sternly.
"The boy you were found with had to go into surgery immediately.. we did everything we could. He's stable but in a coma so it's really all up to him at this point."
"Can I see him?" I said feeling something die inside.
"Um.. well.. that's.. that's really up to your doctor. He's got to run a few test to make sure there's nothing wrong with you other than the few bumps and bruises and the gash on your back we had to seal up."
After the doctors did some testing I was released and I went straight for Aiden. I ran down the hall and into his room, I rushed to his side and grabbed ahold of his hand and started crying. His doctor came in and told me he was still in critical condition, that he might not ever wake up and if he does... he could have permanent brain damage.
I spent the next week clinging to his side, talking to him as if he was still awake, kissing his forehead and his hand constantly, hoping that I'd look up and his eyes would be wide open with that smile on his face. I heard someone behind me clear their throat so I looked over and there was this scruffy 40 some odd year old man who was banged up pretty bad.
"Who are you and what do you want?" I said agitated
"I umm.." he pulled flowers out from behind him "I wanted to apologize."
"Apologize? For what? I don't even know you."
"Apologize for drunk driving a semi and crashing into your car, and for putting both of you in the hospital."
I turned my head around and gave him a death glare. I got up extremely fast and made my way over to him, grabbing him by the collar and pushing him out and against the hallway wall. Something took over me like a demon possessing my body. I started screaming and I punched him so hard in the stomach that he toppled over and spit out blood. Nurses came along with security and had to hull me away from the guy. I never saw myself as a violent person.
After awhile I was allowed back in Aiden's room. I took to his side and held his hand in mine.
"Come back to me Aiden... I can't do this whole life thing without you so please..... please just come back." I could've sworn I felt his hand grip mine but then the monitors started going off and his body began to violently shake. A whole herd of doctors and nurses came in... he was going into cardiac arrest... I saw them put a breathing pump mask on his face as two of the nurses started forcing me out of the room. I didn't dare take my eyes off of him as I fought to stay.
Eventually they got me out, shutting and locking the doors so I couldn't get in. I waited impatiently and called Aiden's family hoping someone would show up... no one did which didn't surprise me considering he was disowned for being gay but still... you'd think someone would show up.
