Cheers.

Cheers to the bright summer haze,

a golden frame for the memories

of all our pool days.

That summer started with a list,

and at the top we both wrote 'never been kissed'.

We planned to run and twirl on heels in the rain,

and laughed at the dancing, blurry camera frame.

We giggled about boys but ran when they looked at us in silly panic,

and we drowned on a blow up matress in a tragic scene from Titanic.

And there was our sad attempts to learn the Japanese word for 'tea',

and our laughter and games at your hockey-puck cookie.

Oh you know how that time has changed,

our eyes apart and our hearts estranged.

Now you look at me,

and stinging eyes are all I see.

I don't know what it was that pulled the trigger,

and it's so hard not to taste tears that are bitter.

I owe you so very much,

And I hope and pray you know this is such.

But I'm sick of the ache,

that stings at your glares like the bite of a snake.

I'm too shy to ask you why,

I'm afraid I'll make another mess- I'm afraid of your reply.

As to the time it is your empty eyes,

and while my mind says yes and my heart says no,

Those memories I give my kiss and goodbyes,

as it is high time for me to finally let go.
