"I'M BEATING YOU TO LUNCH!!!" I yell, at my best friend/rival/I really don't know, Ryan.

"NOT IF I CAN HELP IT!" Ryan yells back at me. I smirk. Heh. I can beat him at this on-

"Stop right there!" We both turn around to find the hall monitor, Rosie, or, the hall monster, as Ryan and I call her, standing next to principle James.

"There is no running tolerated in these halls!" Principal James spoke. "This, will give you both, detention." He hands us both one pink slip. Great. Now I'm gonna miss the hockey game.

"And thanks to Rosie, here, we now have safe and educational halls!" Principal James smiles proudly. I scoff. They leave two seconds later.

"How can a hall be educational?" Asks Ryan.

"Ask the retards. They're over there." I point out, back to Rosie and Principal James, as we both giggle and head over to our usual lunch table.

I take out my brown paper bag lunch, as Ryan leaves to get his lunch from the school. I have a tuna sandwich. Yuck.

When Ryan comes back, I notice how his hair is perfectly messy, but also cute. His eyes are a bright green, and his smile makes butterflies erupt in my stom- ok. What am I doing? Reciting a poem?

"Whatcha got?" I ask him.

"Tuna fish casserole," he says.

"Wanna trade? I ask, pointing to my sandwich.

"I already used my fork..but, sure,"

I quickly grab his food and scarf it down, feeling so hungry.

Ok, now is the perfect time to explain myself.

My full name is Jessica Anna Kaylee Monica. I know..long name. Anyway, I have a rival. He's Ryan. Ryan and I have known each other since we were born, thanks to our parents. Anyway, we're sort of like best friends, and you can never see him without me, or me without him.

We started..the..um..rivalry because of this one incident when we were 10.

-flashback-

So, I was playing outside, and Ryan asked if I wanted to do a contest with him.

"Sure, but if I win the contest, you owe me 20 bucks," I smirked.

"Fine. But I'm gonna win." He said with a sure smile.

Let's see about that.

It was a paper plane contest. We had to create our own plane, decorate however we want, and then we fly it to see who's flys the farthest.

I decided to do the original paper plane design, just white paper with my name on the side. Ryan, however, decided to go all out, and did a crazy paper plane from a random book. I don't know how he was able to follow the instructions, because I probably wouldn't be able to now.

We both had a foot on the line, and we were getting ready to see who's plane is better.

"I'm so gonna win." Ryan smirked.

"Uh huh." I said.

Then we threw our planes. Ryan's didn't even fly-the look on his face was hilarious, it still gets me laughing today. Mine went straight, and I did so well, that my paper plane crossed the street.

"And that's how you do it." I said to Ryan, miserable on the ground.

Even when he was little, he was still quite attractive. I mean, he did have toned skin..and was developing muscles..ok. Fine. I think he's attractive. But I can't like my rival. That's a big no-no. Not that I would..

"Ok. This will be my revenge! I will beat you at everything, whether you like it or not!" Ryan screamed.

"Go ahead. I'd like to see that happen." I smiled.

"Ok..I'll become..your rival." Ryan was eerily close to my body, for a 10 year old.

-flashback end-

Okay. Anyway, I'm 16 and I attend Gilmore High. It's a nice school, not many bullies. Anyway, my favourite colour is mint green, and, yeah. That's all you should know for now.

I see Marlee, my other best friend, come to our table.

"Hey, guys!" She tells us.

"Hey," I reply.

"Hi." Ryan says.

Awkward silence.

"So..have you heard the latest gossip? Haley and Ethan broke up! They're finally free!" Spills Marlee.

I take a quick look at Ryan, with him doing the same.

"I'm gonna get Ethan before you can get Haley!" I taunt.

"No way, I'm getting Haley before you can date Ethan. Hah." And the rivalry starts again.

You see, as I said, we're rivals. We fight over everything. And I mean, everything.

"Will you guys quit trying to be number one?! It's quite annoying." Marlee groans.

"Sorry.." Ryan and I mutter.

The rest of lunch was silent. Except the occasional,

"I'm gonna get there before you!"

"No, I will!"

And then Ryan will kick me and attempt to slow me down.

That's basically it. Nothing really exciting happens.

Except for these weird things my head and Marlee tells me.

You like Ryan so much, so much, you don't even know it.

What do you know, brain?

Everything you know.

Is it even normal to talk back to your brain?

I do not think so.

-

When Ryan leaves for a quick coach meeting, (yes..he's one of those cool and popular jocks) I'm waiting in the hall with Marlee to go to detention. You know. The stupid Hall Monster, Rosie.

"Jess, I already have a feeling that I'm going to become a third wheel soon."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, you and Ryan are gonna fall so hard for each other, you'll have to catch one another in mid air."

"No..why would you think that?"

"Because it's already happening. You see how he keeps looking back at you? That means he wants to be with you. What kind of rival wants to be with a their own rival? Well, this one does. Jessica, welcome to Falling Flights. He's you true love and you're gonna believe it. I bet you, you're gonna see it. So, believe it. I guarantee you, you'll fall by your birthday."

And with that, Marlee says bye to me, waves at Ryan, and winks.

I just stand there, speechless.

Is it really coming? Am I really gonna fall?

Wait. What am I talking about?

Marlee. She's like this. This is normal.

I'm not going to fall.

At least, that's what I thought.
