One morning on January 15, 2009 flight 1549 took off from LaGuardia Airport to Seattle-Tacoma, scheduled to perform a transhipment at Charlotte Airport, leaving normally without knowing the event that was waiting for it, after a flight time.
They were crossed by means of the turbines leaving the airplane without engines giving place to a technical failure, the pilot to realize the event alerted to the aviation where they were told to return to the guard from the near airports to which they had contacted did not have space To land on the tracks the pilot to hear this made the decision not to know that they were unlikely to reach the guard and considering that he was carrying too many passengers he analyzed the landscape in which he was and saw a natural path that was the Hudson River, finding that it was their only and riskier option to land.
A few minutes before the communication was lost, the pilot could not report what was happening. And the control tower believed that the flight had crashed near New York.
When the plane was so close to the river, the pilot with the co-pilot made the final decision to land in the river, they announced to the flight attendants and crew to prepare for the imminent impact.
After landing without any mishap the pilot announced to his crew that they were leaving and they remained calm in the wings to wait for the aid that would arrive minutes later, a small boat that was doing a familiar walk alerted to other boats of the event, the equipment of Rescue and firefighters to come and help the plane.
After a few months of this great event in which there were no serious injuries, as well as the pilot and copilot were tried in New York City by performing a maneuver without aviation permit, they were tested to infer that the pilot had the opportunity Of returning to a nearby airport, upon hearing these hypotheses, responded by saying: "They may be real, but they did not risk the lives of more than 3 people, while on their flight risked the lives of more than 75 people." Verdict took time and the final devotion was that the pilot and the co-pilot deserved freedom. Regardless of all the events that happened, what would have happened if the pilot made the decision to return to the airport?
