No sound was heard in the now silent neighbourhood of Private Drive. The warm, bright day of the 31st of July had now been replaced by the dark, cold night. The only light source were the street light that cast a low glow onto the streets.
The silence was broken when a loud crack echoed throughout the street and a man appeared. The man was old and had a white beard. He wore ridiculous robes and even from a mile away you could see the ever present twinkle in his eyes. Shortly after he appeared a meow was heard and a cat jumped next to him. The cat transformed into an old woman wearing a pointy hat. She was wearing similar robes as the old man but hers weren't as ridiculous.
The old man took out a lighter. As he took the lid of his lighter all the street lights lost their glow and the already dark night became even darker.
The couple stayed still for several moments.
A loud engine sound broke the silence of the night. In the distance a big man came flying on a motorcycle. As soon as he landed the old man rushed to him and took a small bundle from the big man's arms. In the bundle laid a child with thick black hair and a strange lightning scar plastered on its forehead. This child was Harry James Potter, the son of Lily and James potter. His parents had died earlier that night sacrificing their lives for him.
The old man walked up to a house marked as Nr 4 Private Drive and laid the child down near the door. He also placed a card explaining the child's circumstances. The old man knew it wasn't a good idea leaving a wizard in the care of wizard hating muggles but if his plan was to work sacrifices had to be made.
Again a crack echoed throughout the silent street and the faint glow of the street lights returned. The mysterious trio had all but disappeared leaving no evidence them ever being there.
--------------------------------
Petunia Dursley was a thin woman that appreciated normalcy. She was one of very few muggles that knew of magic. Her younger sister, Lily Evans, had been a witch. At first it was wonderful having a magical sister but as the years passed by Petunia was cast aside as her parents focused on Lily. After suffering from neglect for so many years Petunia began to detest everything remotely related to magic. She got married to a man named Vernon Dursly, who was as normal as it was possible to be. They moved to a quiet, peaceful and most importantly NORMAL neighbourhood called Private Drive. Their house was small but comfortable and the completely NORMAL couple enjoyed the normality of Nr 4 Private Drive.
Everything was perfect for the first handful of years until Petunia received an invitation to her sister's wedding. Apparently her sister was getting married to another bloody cursed wizard that went by the name of James Potter. Petunia immediately burned the letter in fear of it having something unnatural attached to it but wrote a letter denying the invitation just in case if her damn sister decided to visit. Vernon didn't even know she had a sister and Petunia would like to keep it that way. After all it was completely unnecessary for her to ruin her perfect NORMAL life by telling her husband about her unnatural sister.
Years went by and after many attempts Petunia and Vernon were expecting a child. Vernon was elastic about finally having a son but Petunia was worried. What happened if her son would be unnatural like her dreadful sister? She was stressed out throughout her whole pregnancy. When their child was born Vernon was pleased at having a son. Petunia saw that her lovely son didn't resemble Lily at all so she cast aside her worries and promised herself to fill him of lots of love.
Life was perfect for the new parents. They took care of their little Dudley and enjoyed the pleasures of having a child. Petunia almost couldn't believe her luck of living such a wonderful normal live for so many years. Her luck ran out when April 1st came rolling by. Everything went like it always had. Vernon got ready for work while Petunia took care of Dudley.
The morning routine was however broken when a sudden scream was heard outside Nr 4 Private drive. Vernon quickly ran to the door and opened it but saw nothing until his eyes locked upon a baby wrapped into a bundle laying beneath his feet.
"Petunia come here" screamed a confused Vernon.
"What's the matter honey" answered Petunia behind him.
A gasp left Petunias lips as she saw the baby. The child was obliviously freezing based on his dark blue lips and rose red cheeks. She picked him up and brought him inside the house. On the way to the living room a letter fell from the bundle. Vernon picked it up and read-----
"Dear Mrs Dursley
I regret to inform you that your sister died recently leaving behind her only son Harry James Potter. You are his last relative so I hereby place his guardianship upon you. Like his parents, Lily and James potter, Harry is a wizard so until he matures accidental magic may occur. 5.000 pounds will be sent to you monthly for Harry's expenses.
I am incredibly sorry for your loss
Albus Dumbledoor, headmaster at Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry".
"PETUNIA! What kind of lunatics did your sister hang out with and since when did you have a sister!"
"Vernon. I'm so incredibly ashamed to tell you this but..... My sister was a witch. After years of her freakishness I met you"
Vernon was angry that his wife had kept this from him but he was enraged that he had to take care of some freak. The money sounded good though.
Petunia didn't want anything to do with her freak of a sister but it would be nice having a little extra money plus she could just ignore Harry like her parents had ignored her. When her husband decided on basically starving the poor boy she decided to give him some food now and then if only to keep him alive!
As the years went by Harry Potter learned to be silent. Even is his stomach was snarling for food he kept his mouth shut. After all Vernon's punishments weren't pleasant and often made Harry's normally beautiful light skin black and blue. In the mornings he would make breakfast for THEM. If it wasn't cooked to perfection his uncle would punish him severely. After breakfast he ate the scraps, if Vernon allowed him, and then cleaned the whole two stories house. If he managed to finish all his chores before five in the evening his aunt would let him take care of her garden.
His aunt Petunia wasn't as bad as Vernon and Dudley. She sometimes snuck him some food which saved his life countless of times. Vernon got angry at Harry for the smallest of things and the punishments for those little mishaps would either be a week without food or fifty lashes on his back. Harry preferred not eating for a week. His stomach had long ago gotten used to the smallest amounts of food. It was a wonder he was even alive.
The reason for Harry's survival was his magic. The magic would stop his body from slowly eating his organs by constantly feeding it with itself. This was of course unhealthy but due to his magic he managed to survive starvation. However Harry's magic couldn't be his only nutrition for more than a month. If his aunt Petunia didn't slip him some food every now and then he would surely be dead.
Even if his aunt wasn't the kindest to him Harry couldn't help but be grateful.
