My heart was racing. Not because I just had my first kill, but because of what I had killed. I had killed a giant wolf that was as big as a garbage truck.
I was broken out of my trance by my mother's terrified scream. I tapped my wing pendant and yellow wings appeared on my back. I flew towards the house, panicking. I landed in front of the doorpost and jugged in. Sprawled on the floor and covered in blood, was my mother. Wolves were still biting her corpse and once I moved, they noticed me. They ran towards me and bared their fangs. Immediately, I knew these wolves weren't normal. As the first wolf jumped at me, I flew up into the air and shot an arrow into it's head. They saw what happened to the member of their pack and instead they attacked as a team. In a split of a second I had been surrounded by hungry, giant wolves. I notched an arrow and instead of it being the normal, glowing arrow, it was a silver one. Some wolves whimpered at the sight of the silver.
I shot the arrow at the second wolf while the first one managed to scratch my leg. I stung like hell and I started feling light-headed poison a voice said in my head. My vision grew hazy but I managed to shoot the remaining wolves before I succumbed to the overtaking darkness.

I woke up to see someone leaning over me. I sat up and shielded my eyes from the scorching sun. I stood up and took in my surroundings. It was breath taking. The creek next to me, the ankle-length grass and the trees around me. It was so beautiful that I almost forgot about the girl standing beside me. She was about an inch shorter than me and had mid-back-length blonde hair. She was wearing a blue tank top with black jeans and Adidas shoes.
"Hi, I'm Adriana" she said, sticking her hand out.
"Jonathan Keith" I replied shaking her hand.
"Nice mansion you had. Too bad it got burned down".
"What?!"
I was really stunned. She pointed at the smoke rising from my mom's mansion. Now the only things I had from my parents were, a blue sword wrist band from my mom, and the necklace with the bow and arrow and wings pendant from my dad.
"We gotta get moving before more of those giant dog-wolf things track us down." She said as she anxiously looked around" They've been following me since you fell from the sly"
"Wait, I fell from the sky?!"
She nodded and said"Yeah, you were caught up in the explosion from your mansion. I still don't understand how you survived."
I tried to walk and winced in pain.
"Personally, I don't think being dead would be this painful"
"Where do your parents live anyway?" she asked as she threw my hand over her shoulder, helping me to walk.
"My mom used to live in the burning mansion"
"Used to?" she asked, confused
"sh-she died" I managed to choke out.
"I'm sorry I asked" She said. Suddenly interested in her shoes."What about you dad? He isn't dead is he?"
"No. He walked out on us two months after I was born."
"I always ask the wrong questions"
"It's alright. I never actually knew him so I don't really care." I lied. I had always wanted to meet my dad and after my mom's death I wanted to find him even more.
"That's my house up ahead. We can rest there for a while"
"Okay"
We walked to the house although actually it was more like her dragging me to the house.
"Dad I'm home" She yelled as we got closer to the house"Mom? Dad? anyone?"
She opened the door to see her parents sprawled on the kitchen floor with a bullet stuck in their skulls. She turned away from the horrid sight and buried her head in my chest, sobbing uncontrollably. As I started rubbing circles on her back and muttering soothing words in her ear, I heard the pounding of paws on grass and an occasional howl. I knew instantly that the wolves tracked us down and very soon we would have to fight our way out.
"Get behind me, NOW" I yelled as I tapped my wing pendant.
"Woah! You have wings?!"
"Long story. Just run"
