Sherlock's Entry II

I was right... as usual. Although, I wish I hadn't been. After a while of meticulous work I was finally able to open May's puzzle of a filing cabinet.

"She's organized, this girl... how does she live with you?" John asked me after seeing her work.

I ignored him and pulled out the solitary file that was overflowing with loose papers. I opened it to see a picture of one of the Sherrinford guards. "I knew he was hitting on her!" I shouted. The file dropped from my hand and the papers scattered across the room.

"Sherlock..." John said, bending down to pick up the sheet of paper that was clipped to the photo.

"This is no time to try and comfort me." I said, slamming the filing cabinet's drawer shut.

"No... Sherlock." John said, looking down at the paper, "Take a look at this."

I took the paper and saw that it had all his information listed. "Aiden Todd..." I turned to John.

"Look what it says under occupation." John said, pointing at the paper.

"Assassin for hire..."  I felt sick to my stomach as soon as I read that. John could apparently see my discomfort.

"Sherlock, I recommend you sit this one out." John said.

"I will not entrust the idiots at Scotland Yard with the life of the woman I love." I shouted.

"You are emotionally connected to this case--" John said.

"I promised her that our relation with each other will not interfere and cloud our judgement; it will not influence my decisions." I said, a tear rolling down my cheek.

John stared at me in utter bewilderment. I watched him with my brows furrowed. He took a very deep breath.

Suddenly, John reached over and placed his hand on my shoulder. He flung his other arm around me and hugged me. I stood motionless wondering what was happening. I then awkwardly patted him on the back and he moved away.

"Everything will be just fine." John said to me, as though I was a small child.

"What in Heaven's name are you doing?" I asked.

"You really are as dense as a bloody black hole." John mumbled.

"Come on... we have to go." I said.

"Where? We don't have an address." John said.

"May is going to give us the address." I said.

John just stared at me. "You really need to stay off this case; it's really starting to get to you."

"Bloody idiot. Didn't you see how she signed the note?" I asked him.

"Yes, with her initials..." John said.

"No, she signed it with 'IM'" I said.

"Yes, 'I' for Ismay and 'M' for Maxwell. Right?" John tried again.

"No, she hates her name! She only uses the initial 'M' when signing anything. She was indicating the significance of something else that is abbreviated as 'IM'." I said.

"Hmm... ah! Instant messaging." John said.

"Yes, exactly... so any messages we get must be examined carefully no matter who it's from or how weird it may seem." I said to him.
