By the time I got home it was about time for dinner. I sat down at the table and waited patiently for my Aunt Lisa to spread all the food out on the table. Once she did and sat down next to my Uncle, we started to eat. I was one fourth the way done with my plate when Aunt Lisa asked me, "So how was school today?"

Not this, I really didn't need her to try and act like my mother. I responded though...

"Fine, just classes and stuff" I said dryly. I tried to close the conversation but then she began again.

"Saw any cute boys?"

Before I could respond, my uncle laughed, "Quit it, you're embarrassing the girl Lisa"

"Oh fine," I was glad that was over. "So who was your friend from earlier?"

"Oh, a girl I met at school her name is Rose" I answer.

"Rose? Rosalie? Isn't that Mark Quinn's girl?" My aunt asked her husband.

"I think so," he responded simply. "That family..." he muttered something after that I couldn't understand but it sounded like an insult.

"What's up with her family?" I asked curious, maybe that would explain why she didn't want me to come over earlier.

"Well, her mother died when Rose was just two years old. Mark raised Rose by herself for five years. That's when he met Maura, and well Maura and Mark became close friends. Close friends who happen to be married. He thought Rose needed a mother and Maura needed someone to help her out with her son as well. So they got married for the benefits. It was a mutual agreement but strange. It is the only instance I've heard of that marriage not out of love has worked out." My uncle answered me.

That was the first I have heard of an arrangement like that. I can imagine it must be strange not to have parents that love each other even if one of them is a step-parent. For a brief moment I wondered who her step-brother would be, he must be around our age. I wonder how he deals with his friends wanting to come over.

I finished my food and cleared my plate. Then I headed upstairs to my room. I wanted to talk to Olivia.

When I was upstairs I turned on my laptop and opened Skype, I set up a video call with my best friend.

She picked up almost immediately. "Claraaaaaa! I miss you so much how are you over there?!"

"I'm good Liv, Well, actually I don't know how I'm doing right now, I mean nothing tragic has happened but I still feel ...weird I guess" I poured my feelings out to her. It's still different without seeing my friends and parents. Why did they have to do this to me again?

"Well, what happened?" She asked curiously.

"Well as you know today was my first day of school." I began, Olivia nodded "I made some friends so far, Rose and Ruby, don't worry nobody will replace you. And there's this guy I really want to talk to but I just can't figure out how to yet. Then Rose told me it's not worth it he'll never talk to me because he's really anti-social and I'm rambling now so I'll let you talk." I let out a breath.

"Well I'm glad you've made friends and I am not worried about you replacing me. That is physically impossible. As for this boy, who cares what your new friend thinks or says. You like him go get him!" She has have always been a good friend with some advice. Which I love about her.

"Yeah if only I had the guts to do that." I told her looking away from the screen for a split second, doodling on a note.

"I know you're a tad shy Clara. But how do you expect yourself to have a love story like the one's you read if you don't even make an effort?"
