Chapter one

Frantic screams and shouts are what came first before the strong guts of wind started circumnavigating wildly inside the master bedroom. Lowly pitched whimsical humming sounds with rhythmic tunes could also be heard. At first he thought he was dead to the world and experiencing his worst nightmare but sooner or later would discover otherwise. He slowly opened his eyes, instantly directing his focus to the door where little light penetrated through the dinty opening , slightly dissolving the pitch darkness that engulfed the room.

He opened his eyes wider, swiftly taking a sweeping look at the room. He slowly uncovered himself and moved out of bed, stepping gently on the ice cold floor. He moved his head briskly from side to side...he could clearly hear the screams and shouts from in within the house. Suddenly, his mind was in sixes and sevens..."what is happening" being the big q. His heart beats promptly rose as if attempting to break its ribcage as beads of sweat rapidly cascaded down his forehead making his body shake vividly due to fright.

As he slowly tiptoed towards the door, the voices grew louder and louder and his heart even more faster. Slowly...avoiding even the tinniest bit of noise that would cause distraction,he unlocked the door. He carefully pulled the door open, holding back his breath as a cold chill ran down his spine.

He peeped outside, one of his hands on his hands on his head, his mouth tightly closed and his eyes widely opened. On the corridor wall, the reflection of the colours red... Green and brown could be seen dashing to and fro. He stepped out, then wham...the door to the master bedroom flung open, unveiling a scary big dark circular hole that stood at the center of the room from which ghost like creatures popped out from. They raced around the room...then suddenly, everything apart from him the 'spooks' became frozen.

Inside the room he clap eyed Mrs Ashley, his mother.... frozen in the air with bruises all over her body.He thought of going to her rescue but surprisingly, he was stuck on the spot and could hardly move a musle.Trying move from here was like jumping out of his own flesh which itself felt like an elastic skin that covered his body. Through the window was his father whose body was covered by tiny glass particles that pierced through his skin. Then...the 'spooks' unexpectedly stood in front of him... they rose their hands and were just about to hit him when a jade chain came flying out of the black hole, hitting him hard on his chest and sending him sprawling in the air before landing down with a loud thud! Quick thoughts flashed across his mind. Confused, he opened his mouth, thinking he was going insane and was ready to scream

He could clearly recall the events of the previous day. His mother had seemed so worried that she could not even make to face him. That night after his arrival home, his father called him to have a man to man talk with him.

"Richard. "He called out.
" Yes father. "
"I know... I know that you are a man now and already of good courage. "
"Yes! " he answered, not sure where the conversation was heading to.
"Now listen and listen very carefully... " he paused for a while and peered at his wife. "Tonight... " he paused again"...tonight you are likely to hear and even see unimaginable things... "
"What do you mean? " he asked, a bit puzzled by his fathers words.

The question by itself demanded silence. He looked around, how could he explain all that was to happen to his son?

"I mean... I mean... " he stammered. "I mean strange things are going to take place at around midnight... Whatever you hear... Don't move out of your room. " he was silent"...don't dare! "He said, traces of finality in his voice.
" Why? "He asked.
" Nothing of importance... Just follow my words son. "
"O-okey dad. " he said... Not sure that he meant it.

Now was the time that he understood what his father meant...why did he have to disobey him?

He could now get a whiff of dust particles which took the highest percentage in the air. He slightly moved his head before finally opening his eyes.
"Oh my! " he exclaimed.

He slowly rose, the willies high in him, wagged his head severally due to horror as he let his eyes roll and churn around the place. Fright suddenly took the better part of him...where was he? He rubbed his eyes and pinched himself, all efforts to affirm he was not asleep. Of all things.... This could not be reality!

The sun was vertically overhead, continuously sending hot piercing rays beneath. Apart from the few patches of wisp clouds that skidded the far end of the eastern horizon, the sky was azure. He looked around, the extensive brown desert soil lay all over. He rose, his legs vividly shaking, his heart pounding even even much faster than it had ever did. He staggered around, then the world immediately started spinning making his vision blurred and suddenly became numb. He fell nosedive and lost his consciousness
