Months, it'd been month upon months upon months since this started. My friends and I were ok, but this is our fault. I've been sick so often, I'm no help when scavenging for food or any materials. I mean, I still sometimes help with making this shack larger. Right now, it is two rooms. One is storage and our beds, the other is a bathroom of sorts. This all started when we were 12 and 13. People thought we were lying and over reacting when we said that we might've caused the end of the world.
Nakari found concrete last week, so we're making cement bricks for the base of out shacks expansion. Kari is kind of a Master Manipulator at this point, and I still remember when Ellie was with us. She ran off about a year and a half ago with Jake, her black lab. We've heard stories of her and how she gets supplies, I always knew she was crazy. Nelly was with Rose in the other room, patching up her arm. They got into a fight with some raiders for supplies, we killed 2 or 3 but they still hurt us. I'm currently Getting ready to go outside in order to add the 2nd layer of bricks with Alexis and Kari. We're gonna need 4 layers at least, we want it to be at our waist. Someone found some metal rods the other day and we're gonna put them threw the bricks every yard on the bricks. I sit down and start to lay out the bricks, we're lucky honestly. I mean the sheer ability for us to do this is amazing. Well what can we do, Kari's gas mask is clipped to her belt. She starts to mix the concrete for the 3rd set of bricks. We left 2 spots for possible doors. Personally, I'll be happy once we have an actual door.
~~6 hours later~~
I sigh and sit up, we managed to finish the foundation for the other room. Metal rods and all, I can hear some of the others working with the wood planks and screws for the rest of the wall. I stand up and walk out, Seeing Kari, Rose, Nelly and Nina working on it. Two of the walls are close to done and Nina's putting in that insulation we got from trading a while back.
"Nevaeh, where are you going," Kari says, I yawn and smile.
"Nowhere, I just decided to see if this was going smoothly." Kari shakes her head at me.
"You know you shouldn't be outside without a mask, I don't think any of us could handle you dying. Especially after Nina's reaction to Randy and Jasmine." I almost forgot that they where dead, Jasmine's body was never ready for this disease and Randy was just. After he died, Nina was distraught and seemed to be hiding things from us. I knew that her and Randy got together, but I know most of us where suspicious.
"Kari, I'm fine. In fact I haven't worn that mask for 2 weeks," I exclaimed. I grab some equipment in order to start helping with the final wall. Not even an hour later, we're fixing and adding the roof. Nailing it down, we take down the two poles sitting there and remove that wall between the storage/bed room and this new one. We start to pull out more bricks to do this wall, we break down all the extra wood that isn't rotted into more planks. We spent the rest of the day putting down the bricks, moving some of the roof and adding metal poles. Then we just, sleep. I wake up not too long after everyone else, They're gathering the stuff to add to those walls to finish it. I help put in the Insulation and add the roof back.
"Alright then, we need eat," Kari says, pulling out the bowls we all use and starting to put in the mix with water rations we got from a supply drop. We all just sit in silence and eat the oatmeal. We eat every couple days, especially since food is scarce. We work on taking out the back wall of the rest of the house, exposing the storage room and bathroom. We put together the cement bricks and add the metal beams. We leave room for a door in the storage room area. It's close to 3 pm now and everone goes outside to fill water bottles. There are a lot of us and we don't really talk all that much. I mean theres Me (Neveah or Nev), Chanel (Nelly), Nakari (Kari), Nina, Alexis, Amy, Madison (Maddy), Rose and, Julianna (Julie). I mean, Julie, Madison and, Amy are scavenging right now. We finally get up and start adding the planks and insulation, we do this again for the front wall. Its close to 10 pm now and most of us pass out asleep, but I know Kari was awake. The next morning, everyones back, Amy found things for a door frame so we add it to around the front door. She didn't find a whole door, but she found the hinges and doorknob. I know that Nina will probably spend part of the day carving a door from a slab of wood. We finally work on the inner wall in between the bathroom and the center room, its less of a space so were done in about an hour or two. I pull out the curved steel piping and set it on the floor. We were gonna try to hook up drain pipes for our sink and "toilet". It was odd to think that we'd gone for 3 years without a real toilet. At this point we knew that we had a lot of extra cement, so we started on the floor first and we took down the wall that was still old wood. I added all of the connected pipes before it drys and we flatten the concrete the best we can. It takes hours but we add the final wall and the floor is dry. I help Nina with the door while Kari and Nelly try to hook up the so-called toilet and the sink. I can see the pipes that lead out from where I am and I see Kari connecting the two together and putting it so that it drains to a large container. I watch them test it, then go back to working because it kept failing.

5 days, it took 5 days to do all of this. Kari and Nelly made plumbing that kinda works, me and Nina made a door, we made a more stable house, and we have real floors and walls. This house, will stay strong and be our home. We moved all of the beds into our brand new room and everyone seems content. For once everyone seems content, and I know for a fact that everyone slept that night. This might just be, our little glimmer of Hope.
