Awestruck

I reluctantly started to get ready for the ball. I really didn't see a reason for me to go. I highly doubt any of these women will be my beloved. I don't even want to find her for Pete's sake! Most of the women here are just going to throw themselves at me in hopes of getting the crown and the money. Now none of them know I'm a vampire, they just think I'm royalty. Which isn't a total lie.

I grabbed my tux with the blood red stitching and matching tie out of my closet and threw it on. I decided to leave my hair down, but straightened, and my piercings in. Hey, if my mate can't handle me how I am then fuck her. I did decide to add a black dragon pin onto my lapel. It was my family's crest. A jet black dragon with blood red eyes with it's tail wrapped around a silver sword. If by chance I found my mate I'd give this to her tonight as a welcome to the family.

I slipped on my black doc martins and prayed to god my mother didn't notice them. I hated those point dress shoes. They looked stupid and hurt my feet.

Just as I was running a brush through my hair as a final check, my mother came sashaying into the room. She was in a floor length black dress with dark purple glitter lightly dusted across it. It had a slit up the side and her hair was elegantly curled. My mother reveled in any excuse to dress up. So unlike me.

"Vladimir, darling, you look absolutely wonder-" she started to say as she looked me from head to toe. But the moment she reached my feet her face contorted to annoyance.

"Change into some appropriate shoes before I burn those atrocious things," she said annoyed. And she would burn them. With her magic. That can't be out out but goes out once it's intended target is gone.

I was gonna make a mental note to ask dad to tell her to stop with the magic but it's a touchy subject. One we don't talk about ever.

I sighed and changed into those stupid dress shoes and muttered, "happy?" towards my mothers now smiling face.

"Yes, now let's get this gorgeous hunk downstairs to meet all the beautiful ladies!"

I groaned at her choice of words.

"Mom don't ever call me a 'hunk' again. It's disgusting."

She rolled her eyes and said, "oh whatever. Just go find me a daughter."

Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. I stepped forward and waited for the guards to open the thick wooden double doors. The moment they opened, the entire room went quiet. I held my head up as I walked through the parted crowd towards my throne. I took a seat and glanced around, I saw a couple of girls dressed like me, but none of them matched the sooths description fully. I kept looking around and saw nerdy girls, preppy girls obsessed with their appearance, a handful of confident average girls, and even a guy or two.

At about this point my dad cleared his throat and began his opening speech.

"Thank you all for coming tonight. We are here to honor my son, Vladimir, and his recent birthday. As you all are aware, this is a search for his perfect love. We are trying to find the best match to rule by my son. You will all get a chance to speak with my son. If I could ask you all to line up respectively then you will all get a few minutes to speak."

With that they all lined up in front of my throne. The first girl in line was a very shy girl dressed in a light purple dress. She kept chewing on her lip and twisting her light brown hair around her finger. She had bright green eyes accented by black liner. I smiled warmly at her and gestured at the chair beside my throne. I knew she wasn't my beloved but I wasn't really looking for her so I might as well be kind.

She took a seat, re adjusting her dress nervously.

"What is your name dear?"

"E-Elizabeth," she answered nervously.

I reached my hand out to for hers and she placed her shaky hand in mine. I held it gently as I brought it up to my lips to kiss it. She blushed bright red as I released her hand and smiled.

"Where were you born?"

"R-right here in Romania."

The conversation went on like this for a couple of minutes before I stood up and kissed her cheek gently. She walked back to her table while blushing. The next couple of hours went roughly the same way until I got to the boy in the room. The other one had left.

This boy was dressed in an all black suit with shaggy hair that had his bangs cropped over his eye. His other bright blue eye was lined in black eyeliner. He immediately sat down and reached over to shake my hand. I shook his hand firmly.

"Hello I'm Caius. It's very nice to meet you. And before you jump to conclusions, I'm not here to court you. I just wanted to meet the prince that has all the girls talking," he said this with a smile and I immediately sighed in relief.

"I'm so glad to here that. Not that I have anything against people like that, I just didn't want an awkward meeting."

He laughed and we started talking about video games and stuff on the internet. I had no clue about half of the cars he mentioned but I played it off since I'm supposed to be accustomed to this culture. At the end I felt like I had made a friend so I wrote down my number for him and said if he ever wanted to come play video games just give me a call. The next hour continued the same as the last few and by the time I reached the end of the night I was exhausted. I decided to take a walk In the garden. That always helps clear my head.

So I snuck past the guards and the guests and made my way out the side door that led to the patio and the garden. I remember when I was little my mother used to walk me through here and let me run through the flowers and pick any of them I wanted. I always picked a bunch of violets because they were my mothers favorite. Whenever I was done picking and running, I'd hand my mom the bouquet and she'd carry me to bed. But the flowers weren't in bloom as it was late fall. An early snow had hit so there was a layer over everything.

I glanced around the spacious garden and saw a woman in a short, but not slutty, black dress. The dress had a bit of poof to the bottom of it and it was strapless. Her hair was stark white.

I walked up to her and said, "excuse me miss? Are you alright?"

She turned around and looked at me with a look of shock.

"Y-yes I'm f-f-fine. I just d-didn't have the n-n-nerve to go in and m-meet you."

I smiled at her. She had electric blue eyes and black lipstick. Even with the shivering in her voice, she spoke music. but I had no clue what any of this meant, nor could I remember the sooth's reading, until I went to drape my jacket around her shoulders. That's when I felt the jolt as my hand brushed her bare shoulder.
