"Say hello to Han for me," Hux laughed. His gun was pointed right at Rey. There was nothing he could do but hope. Rey was strong. She could survive blaster bolt easily. Hux shot once, twice, three times; each time Rey blocked each shot with her lightsaber like it was nothing.
"HUX!" Kylo shouted, desperately trying to gain his attention. "If you want to kill her, you have to kill me first. You wouldn't do that to a friend, would you?"
It worked. Armitage's full attention was on him now. He lowered his blaster and Ren put away his lightsaber. Ren could feel the desperation in his own eyes and he hated it. He hated how he fell in love with this girl and got into this situation.
"You're right. I couldn't kill my closest friend." Ren heard the sarcasm and started to panic. Hux raised the blaster and aimed it at him. Then he turned it on Rey and shot.
"No!" Ren screamed. He whipped out his lightsaber and sliced into Hux's chest. He knew it wouldn't kill, but it would knock him down for the time being.
Ren ran to Rey and put her in his lap. Blood was pouring out of her chest and her breathing was ragged. She turned her head towards him.
"How did we manage to get ourselves into this mess?" she half laughed. She went into a coughing fit and he lifted her into a better sitting position until she recovered.
"I don't know. How are you feeling?"
"Not good at all. I can barely breathe."
"Okay then. Don't talk right now. You'll run out of breath. You just need to focus on healing." Tears were streaming down Rey's face. He supposed no one's cared about her like he has.
"I don't know how much longer I can last. It hurts too much to breathe. Don't do anything rash. Use my death to your advantage. Snoke will be disappointed he never got to train me. His guard will be down. Kill him."
Her breathing stopped for a moment. Kylo Ren, the one who killed almost everyone in his uncle's Jedi training class without shredding a tear, was crying uncontrollably. This man who had only known this woman for a week tops, was bawling his eyes out over her. How quickly one can fall in love and how quickly can that love die.
"No. No! You can't die! Don't leave me here! I won't be able to survive on my own!" he said urgently. He was getting desperate. "I need you."
She regained her breath and suddenly both were crying, their tears mixing on Rey's cheeks. She reached her hand up to his face as his father had done when hi killed him.
"Be brave for me. You'' do that for me, won't you?" Kylo nodded. "I love you."
Those were her last words before she died in his arms. Ren sobbed. His only love was dead. He had never been more determined to destroy the First Order. Rey, Kylo's first weakness, became his strength.
"I know."
