"Kailey! Good lord, girl, hurry up and bring me those books!" Called out the teacher, standing in front of the entire class. The smaller girl with brownish red hair stood from her desk, quickly reaching out to grab the books, only to let one slip and drop to the floor. A loud thump was heard as the hardback adventure novel hit the ground, and a few quiet snickers were heard from her fellow classmates. Her teacher's arms had crossed, tapping her foot on the ground in annoyance. The high school student reached down to grab her fallen book, hitting her head on the desk when bending over. This caused the entire class to roar with laughter. "Settle down, everyone! No need to laugh at another's mistake. After all, we all make mistakes. Isn't that right, Edward?" The teacher looked over the class, searching for a particular brown haired male in a green sweater. But she was met with an empty, dusty desk. Frowning, she looked back at Kailey, who had managed to make it to the front of the classroom seemingly unharmed and without any other problems. "Kailey, do you have any idea where Edward is?" She asked the young female in front of her. Kailey handed her teacher the books, shaking her head. "No, ma'am. He must've skipped class again."

The teacher silently cursed to herself, soon mumbling, "That boy..." under her breath. "He's always getting into trouble! If I were his mother, he would be in a heck of a lot of trouble!"

Kailey inwardly cringed at the raising of her teacher's voice, quickly making her way back over to her desk. She wanted to speak up, yell at the teacher for her outbursts towards her students. But she just couldn't. No one could. Everyone was too scared of the teacher everyone knew as the school witch. Sometimes Kailey thought that the name originated from her personality, other times she thought the rumors about her being an actual witch were true. But you could never tell with that woman. She was hardly ever nice, and her pale lips were always curved into a frown. Was she beggining to grow grey hairs, too? Kailey wasn't sure, but she knew she wouldn't ever even try to get close enough to see for herself. The less time around Mrs. Buck the better. She was knocked from her thoughts at the sound of the school bell ringing. Yes! Freedom! She thought to herself, grabbing her pencil and pen from her desk and rushing to the door. There was only one problem, her books were still with Mrs. Buck. Kailey turned on her heel, pushing past a few other students until she was right beside the desk of her Language Arts teacher. "Mrs. Buck? M-May I have my sketch book and adventure novel, please?" Kailey made sure her tone was polite, not wanting to anger the witch even more that day. "No." The teacher replied, not bothering to take her eyes from the papers in front of her face. It was simple, yet it got the point across. Kailey's expression grew panicked. She nodded, walking out of the classroom without another word. But who would talk back to Mrs. Buck? No one in their right minds would. Well, there was one....

Kailey sat outside of the school, waiting for a chance to speak with a friend of hers. Though, they didn't walk out of the school building until long after her. The older male had walked from the school entrance over to Kailey, who sat on the concrete stairs, biting her nails. It was an anxious habit of hers. "Kailey, dear, are you alright? You look like you've seen a ghost!" Said the female's history teacher, Mr. Jones. "Worse, Miss Buck has my sketchbook and novel. And it's a Library book!" The girl pouted, setting her hands on her knees. Her skin was pale from anxiety and fear, what if Mrs. Buck saw her drawings? What would she think about them? "Calm down, Kailey. I can try to talk her into giving you the books back." Replied the brunette, resting his hand on his student's shoulder. He sat down beside her, his hand never leaving Kailey's shoulder. That was, until she shook it off, "If you ask her to give me the books back, she'll refuse."

"Well then I'll ask her to let me hold the books. Then I can give them back to you!" He declared, surprising Kailey. "You would do that?"

"Of course I would! After all, that's what friends do, isn't it?"

Kailey thought for a moment, before her bright smile returned to her lips, and she nodded her head, "Yeah, I guess." She pulled her teacher in for a hug, surprising herself, and Mr. Jone. But, nonetheless, he hugged back, a smile present on his own lips. "Well, if you want your books back by tomorrow, I'd better head back inside and have a talk with Miss Buck. I'll see you tomorrow, Kailey!"

"See you tomorrow, Mister Jone!" She waved, her smile staying until he was out of sight. It slowly faded, until it was gone, replaced with a small frown. And then, replaced with shock, hearing an explosion, followed by a car alarm in the distance. "Shit-" She muttered, looking in the direction it came from. Wait, that's my neighborhood!
