It was a cold night on New Year's Eve. Frost was settling on the flora of suburban London and all was quiet. Dan and Phil had finished their New Years celebrations and were off to bed, in hopes of a good, early start to 2017.
Dan checked his phone. 4:02 a.m. He couldn't sleep. It had been an at least an hour since he went to bed. He was absolutely freezing. He had no hot water bottles or anything to keep him warm. He tossed and turned about what to do until, without thinking, he snuck into Phil's bedroom. Trying not to wake him up, Dan slipped into Phil's bed. Phil had a gentle warmth, which Dan greatly appreciated. It felt like fresh sheets after school or work. It felt like a warm drink on a cold day.
"Dan?". Crap. He had woken Phil up. "Uhh, Phil, I can explain". Phil gave him a look of "this better be good".
"I was really cold and couldn't get to sleep. I don't know why, but I decided to come into your room and , umm, sleep with you. I'm such a weirdo and a creep and I unders-"
"Dan, can I be completely honest?". Dan sat up. "This sounds really weird, but I find it really comforting, you in bed with me. Like, I don't know, it just feels like it's how it's supposed to be."
"I feel exactly the same way." He stared into Phil's deep blue eyes, smiling. An eternity had past before he lent in, his lips colliding with Phil's. This was the most magical moment either of them had ever experienced. They wished it would last forever.
"Is this really where how we want our relationship to be?", Phil asked.
"Yes", said Dan.
"Are we gonna tell anyone?"
"I don't think we can", Dan replied.
He leant in for another taste of heaven. In this moment, they knew 2017 would be a good year.
