It had been three weeks since the war had ended and the men were back on land. For three weeks, Nate had been sitting on the roadside, waiting for his beloved to drive back down the road. A few happy families and couples had driven on that road, stopping to greet the lonely man.
There was one couple, in particular, a man and woman that came at the end of the third week. They had stopped their vehicle, opening the door.
"You alright there mate?" The man had asked Nate who was covered in dust and bug bites and he nodded in response.
"Just waiting for a loved one to return home. He served in the army, the name was Archie Smith. Around 6'4, bunched with muscle and short brown hair with bright green eyes, a very happy bloke?"
The couple looked down at Nate in pity, shaking their heads slowly.
"Sorry... don't know him."
Nate smiled sadly, nodding at the couple who drove off.
