The day of the party I am threatened repeatedly by Jack, Fran and Mary. They keep telling me that they’ll kill Cody if I try anything funny. Miles takes me aside and warns me by telling me what they will do if I slip and very friendly helps me with my facial expressions so I don’t look suspicious. I almost cry knowing that if I screw this escape up it will be the end of Cody’s life.

I am dirty and raged after riding my Gracie girl in the soaking wet rain. I jump off her back shivering, landing in a puddle of mud. Mud covered my legs, arms and face. I sigh heavily annoyed. I walk her back to her stall. Gary walks by me and stops.

“I don’t think you two could get any dirtier.” I laugh as a grab a bucket.

“I know, I hope I’ll clean up in time for the party tonight.” I start to fill the bucket with warm soapy water getting ready to wash Gracie. As I am about to put the sponge in the water Gary grabs my hand.

“Oh no, that’s today? I think you should go and clean up right now, I’ll take care of Gracie.”

“Why?”

“You don’t know how crazy Mary gets when parties are going to be thrown. She’s all about preparation and she’ll freak if she sees you like that. You only have four hours to get ready and there’s a lot to be done. She’s going to be in the worst mood when she sees you like that. If you can, try to sneak into the house without her seeing you, jump right into the shower and she’ll never know about this.” I give him a huge hug.

“Oh Gary, what would I do without you?”

“You would manage. Trust me!” Him saying that just gives me more encouragement to leave this place. I sure will miss him.

“Thank you so much for everything.” I hug him again and then run to the house. More mud splatters on me when im running not really paying attention to all of the mud puddles. Why would it matter I honestly couldn’t get any dirtier.

By time I reached the house my riders outfit was completely drenched form the rain and mud puddles. I make it to the front door. I stand there for a moment wondering how im going to go in without being seen. My heart is racing and I’m actually scared. I decide to run like hell as soon as I open the door. I count to three. One. Two. T-. The door opens and Mary appears out of nowhere. Crap.

Crystal May Roberts, where have you been? Don’t answer, I already know. You were riding that horse again and you’re covered in mud. You must not care about the boy so much if you can’t have any consideration for me or my party. I could just make him disappear.” She looks at me with enraged, threatening eyes.

“No. Please don’t. I was just clearing my head. Getting all my nerves out of me before the party. I didn’t mean to be disrespectful. I would never do anything to even provoke you to hurt my brother. I’ll be good. I promise!” She grabs my arm.

“You better be or else.” She keeps hold of my arm as she pulls me up the stairs. When she lets me go I run to the bathroom and shut the door. To my surprise there are three ladies in there with me. I am immediately confused.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know anybody was in here.” I am about to turn when one of them speak.

“Oh no Miss. Roberts, you are just in time.”

“Time. Time for what?” They all giggle.

“Oh my dear time to get ready for the party.”

“Okay, I’m ready.” All three women look down at me in disappointment.

“No. Not just yet. First you need a bath.”

“Could this day get any worse?” I groan to myself.
