"Hey mom, I'm home!" I called as I walked up the stairs and opened the sliding doors that led into my big, white and brown, very modern house. It was basically all glass on the side facing the beach, and the warm light shined through the windows, splashing onto the sand. I loved to sneak out in the middle of the night, and just sit and listen to the waves lapping at the shore.

Entering the living room, I dumped my bag on the white couch that faced our huge flat screen tv. I headed over to the breakfast bar and sat on the dark brown stool, grabbing a banana from the fruit bowl, and letting out a long sigh. Finally school was done and over with, our lives could start again.

I pulled out my cell from my shorts pocket, and found a text from my best friend, Adrienne. She was wondering if she was still coming over to get ready for the big end of school party. I texted her back, telling her yes of course, and to get her lazy ass butt over here as quick as she could.

"Oh, you're back already, Allicat? Wow, I was so lost in taking pictures that I didn't realize the time!" My mother said as she strolled into the kitchen, coming through the glass door I had left open. Her camera was hanging around her neck, of course. She was wearing loose jean shorts and a black tank top with an unbuttoned checkered shirt over it, the sleaves rolled up. As usual, she was walking around in bare feet.

I swear, my mother and I were complete opposites. I dressed up everyday, mostly wearing skirts and dresses and nice shorts with heals or dressy sandals. I loved to put on makeup and do my hair, but my mother didn't at all. Even though she was famous for her photography of models for top designers, she liked to keep everything natural. Makeup was a rarity for her, but she honestly didn't need it. 46 and she still looked like she was at least ten years younger. I hoped I would be like that when I got older.

"Yes mom, time flies when you're taking pictures all day," I told her, laughing. She was never without her camera.

"Oh shush. The sun was perfect today, I couldn't resist. So honey, how was your last day? Excited for school to be out?" She asked, rummaging in the fridge for something to make us for an after school snack.

"It was good, kind of boring we didn't do much, just cleaned out our lockers and everything. And yes course, finally summer!," I exclaimed happily, looking at my phone and seeing that Adrienne had replied, saying that she was coming as fast as she could.

"Oh and can I have Adri over? We might go do something down at the boardwalk with a bunch of people later tonight," I asked, already knowing she'd say yes.

"Of course you can, you hardly need to even ask anymore, she's practically family," My mother said, making us sandwiches on the black countertop across from me.

"Here you go sweetie," She said as she handed me my PB&J sandwich. As usual, it was evenly sliced down the middle and had the perfect amount of jelly and peanut butter on it.

"Thanks mom!" I said as I headed up the dark brown stairs to my room, stuffing the sandwich in my mouth.

When I was little, I used to imagine slipping and falling through the stairs, as they weren't connected in between the steps except for a sturdy metal bar running along the bottom. At the top of the stairs, there was a short hallway that had two doors on the left, and one on the right. At the end of the hallway, It was glass from top to bottom, and you could see the golden sand meeting the deep blue ocean. The bright sun was streaming through and made the dark brown wood floors seem almost a light tan color.
