I've loved her all along. We never intended to be more than costars and friends. My life had fallen into the normal cadence of a man my age. Engagement, wedding, baby, new house, career. It was what I thought I wanted, what I needed. Even in the moments it seemed like a trap, I stayed. Talked myself down from the ledge. But the day I met Dakota I knew I'd been wrong. I thought I had love figured out then this beautiful soul swept me up into her atmosphere, and I've been stuck there since with no intentions of running.
We've dealt with a lot of bullshit to get where we are now. Most of it was mine, because it became part of the agreement. If I wanted out, I would play the game. I had to protect myself, my children, my contract with Universal, but also Dakota. So I joined the circus that became our PR nightmare.
I fell for Dakota long before she fell for me, but the more time we spent together the more I knew she felt it too. That undeniable spark. The one that only soul mates feel. Together we were electric, and once our pasts were out of the picture it all fell into place. A messy puzzle, but she was my missing piece. She'd agreed to fight through the storm, risking her sanity and security to be with me.
She's turned my world upside down just by letting me breathe. I'm a better man around her. The man I want to be. She lets me sing to her. Play guitar for her. Dance in front of her. Tell ridiculous stories with my mouth full. It doesn't matter. She loves me without pretenses, and I've never lived my life through clearer lenses than when we're together. She understands me at a glance. This is who I am, and it's because of her that I discovered that identity.
She's my best friend. My happily ever after. The struggle to get to this moment has been worth it... She's worth it.
