Chapter 1
Damien
It all started at the castle, at least for me it did. Because you may not believe it, but I was the Prince of Fayden and heir to the throne, But that doesn't matter much for now. As I was sitting by the lake (I always went there when I had the time to escape the castle), I noticed how some fish swam in the crystal clear, blue water. It really was a beautiful place to be, There were large trees surrounding the lake that held blossoms in all kinds of bright or soft colors, I only knew one kind back then, the Knight-Oak. (Mala would've slapped me for being such an idiot, but we're not there yet) Finally, I could feel my body relax as I leaned back, against a tree, my feet in the cold water. But of course, my peace was disturbed when I heard the sharp, piercing voice of the head maid, Lady Brimm.
"Prince Damien! How many times have I told you, your place is in the castle where you can't run into trouble!" she yelled and I sighed, looking over at her from my place without making any moves to get up. Her long, grayish, blond hair hung flatly from her head, without about as much volume as a grape, and combined with the way she had countless of wrinkles covering her face, she looked like a wicked witch.
"I'm fine, calm down" I replied, flatly.
Lady Brimm took me by surprise when she grabbed me by my arm and yanked me up, glaring at me before dragging me towards the castle. Sometimes I really thought she had the freaky idea she was my mother. But she wasn't. (my mother died when giving birth to me) She yanked my arm again when I struggled to get free and it briefly caused me to stop. I tried to free my arm from her grasp again only second later, but her grip was tight and brutal enough to make me stop soon enough.
"okay, okay, got it! No more sneaking out of the castle." I smiled a little at her, hoping she'd let me go. Luckily, she did, but she stopped me from walking by stepping in front of me.
"You look worse than a tree-dryad on a stormy fall day" she told me before beginning to fuss with my hair and trying to wipe it out of my face, which of course didn't work. She let out a frustrated groan, and began walking again. I knew she expected me to follow her, so I just did that to avoid any more problems.
"I want you to go to your room and read one of the preparation books your father gave you for when you become the king." Even though she said it so seriously, we both knew it would be useless to put effort into that, because we both doubted, or more like everyone doubted, I'd become the king. (my father drank unicorn blood once, so despite him being human, he was immortal. Meaning, he wouldn't age a day, and he hadn't ever since he married my mother, so he didn't look much older than his end twenties, begin thirties?)
"Fine, I'll read another, stupid book." I mumbled when we walked through the gates. Finally, Lady Brimm left me alone with a nod and a stern look. I went straight to my room. The door locked behind me after I walked inside so no one would disturb me anymore.( My room was pretty large, with high, white walls, an almost black, wooden bed at one side of the room, a small table in the middle of it and a large desk, filled with books and sheets that held various scribbles at the other side of the room. for the rest there was ivy going up those white walls that gave it a nice and calm look, in my opinion.) sighing softly, I went to my private bathroom that was connected to my bedroom by a heavy door that always was a bit of a struggle to open.
