Codys P.O.V
Holding my pistol tight, and gripping my steering wheel tighter. I couldn't get the evil thoughts out of my head. I had so many questions , but didn't have the answers to any of them. I took the long way to the trap to give me time to get myself together before I went to meet Q. To say I was an emotional mess, was an understatement. I knew that the man that raised me wasn't the man that hurts us all the time.
It was the week after my 5th birthday and my dad had just came back from one of his business trips. I hated when he had to go to those things, I never got to see him then, besides on the occasional FaceTime calls or pictures he sent.
"Cody I'm home" my dad called.
I ran down the steps anxious to see him. I loved spending time with my dad and I also missed him.
Reaching the last couple of steps, I turned the corner to the living room and there was no one there. I stood there looking crazy, wondering where he had went that quick.
"Boo" he hopped out the closet and picked me up, spinning me in circles. I laughed and screamed so much tears were falling from my eyes. He then put me down to catch his breath.
"You getting big boy. Come outside I got a surprise for you"
My eyes lit up and I quickly followed him to see what the big surprise was.
"We're almost there. Are you ready?" He asked
"Yes, yes, what is it?" I was so anxious to see what he had got me.
We reached the backyard door and there was a huge bounce house set up. I immediately ran towards it and hopped in , not even taking my shoes off.
"So you just gone forget about your ole man, after I worked hard to get this for you." He asked with a playful smile on his face.
"I'm sorry, thank you daddy." I ran and gave him the biggest hug ever and we stayed outside and bounced and played on it the rest of the day. I was the happiest kid in the world.
But a week later I saw my mom get her first beating .... well at least the first one I saw.
I was in my room playing with my toys , when I heard my mom and dad arguing. I went down the steps and stood in the corner of the hallway so that they couldn't see me.
"You think just because you pop in and buy him a bounce house and a few other toys that you deserve a fucking reward? He needs you to be here.!" My mom screamed, damn near in tears.
I looked at my dad, who was angry. His eyes were really red and he had this grimace on his face.
"You better be glad that I'm even doing that, after all the hoe shit you've done. The bastard probably not even mine."
My mom drew her hand back and slapped him across the face.
"How dare you sit up here and say some shit like that?" He paused for a moment and looked at her like she was crazy before hopping over the counter and punching her in the face. I ran in screaming,
"Daddy stop , Daddy stop"
he was sending blow after blow to her face and than began to choke her. I sat there and stared in my moms eyes as tears fell out of them, and there was nothing I could do. I tried to push him off but I was just too small.
"Daddy please, you're hurting mommy. Stop!!"
He paused for a second and looked over in my direction. Took a deep breathe and finally let go. Then he stormed out of the door.
I thought back to my childhood and immediately thought "what went wrong?" He wasn't always this demonic person, he was loving and caring, always took me to football games, and played catch with me when he could. He was my role model and I wanted to be just like him. How could something so good turn sour in just a few years? When things were good, they were great. But when they were bad, they were extremely bad. You never knew what you would get with my pops. But at the end of the day, I knew he loved me and my mom, but now I'm not so sure.
I pulled up in front of the trap giving it one last final thought. I had to make sure that this was something that I really wanted to do. The little kid in me still loved this man, but the grown man in me hated him, and I'll be a fool to keep allowing him to hurt us. Knowing exactly what I needed to do,I quickly hopped out of the car and used my key to get inside the trap. This would be a long night.Picture of Cody in MM.
