And we'll never be royals

This is not in our blood

That kind of lux just ain't for us

We crave a different kind of buzz

I was humming to the song at the background as I was staring at the blank sheet of paper in front of me.

Hmmmm.

My phone buzzed. I checked the notification and sighed. Time for work.

I closed my drawing book and placed it in my bag and walked out of my room. I headed downstairs and left my flat, making sure that its locked and secure.

I walked down the street with headphones plugged in my ear and music blaring, making me oblivious to the sounds around me. I turned a corner and entered a cafe that I worked at. It's just a simple small cafe 10 minutes away from my flat by foot. The cafe is almost empty, with few familiar customers here and there. I waved hello to them as I passed by and made my way at the staff's room where I wore my uniform and a red-stripped apron. A small maroon cap sits on my head and I took my station as the casheir.

It's almost 3 in the afternoon which means I'll have a 30 minute break before going back to work. I entered the staff's room again and took off my cap and apron, only wearing my black colared shirt and matching trousers. I made my way over to a vacant booth and sat there after I ordered my snacks.

We're allowed to order our own menu as long as we pay for it just like normal customers.

The T.V. is on the news channel talking about a new contraption that can be used as a portal to travel through different dimensions or some crap that's purely out of sci-fi movies.

The cafe door bell rung and an elder woman and a young girl entered.

"You go find a seat dear. Mum's gonna order, alright?" the small girl nodded, whom I assumed to be her daughter, and walked towards the booth next to mine.

I took a sip from my expresso. I was observing my cup of coffee when something rushed through my mind. I quickly stood up and went to get mu sketchpad and returned to my table. My hand started to draw aimlessly on the paper as I concentrated. It took me about 15 minutes just to do a smooth sketch of my piece when the TV fluctuated.

I looked up to see the screen having moving lines of black and white, like they're loosing signal and it went off. Silence filled the room if it weren't for the sounds of chatting by customers who are oblivious to the TV screen.

"Great." I mumbled and looked at my watch. 3 minutes left.

I stood up from my booth and brought the trash with me. I placed them in a bin and wore my uniform again and stood as the cashier again.

The doorchimes was heard throughout the cafe as a new customer enteted.

"Good afternoon sir. Welcome to Star Café. May I take your order?" I memorized the line with a smile on my face as the guys gaze was searching at our counter-menu.

"I would like a Chocolate Frappé and 2 pieces of cinamon bun please." he stated and I punched in his order.

"That would be £2.75 sir." he gave me his pay and I gave him his change and reciept. I pulled out a tray from below and grabbed 2 buns and placed them on a plate at the tray and went to make some frap.

"Here's your order sir. Happy eating!" I said with a practiced smile.

He nodded and took the tray from the counter and headed off to find a booth.

As I was wipping the counter, something caught my eye. I looked at the entrance of the cafe and saw people running. And being the curious lad I am, I walked over to check what was happening.

There was nothing outside when I peeked. Hmm. My mind must be playing tricks on me again.

"Tim?" I turned around and saw our manager, Mrs. Reyes, looking for me.

"Here ma'am." I walked over to her.

"Oh, there you are. Anyways, I was thinking of closing the cafe early since me and my husband would be attending a very important business early tonight. So, we'll be closing at around 5 or 5:30." I nodded and headed back to my station.

-

"Goodbye Tim! Take care!" Mr. Reyes waved.

I waved back and continued walking towards home. The streets is unusually silent and it's only 5:45. I enteted my flat and proceedes upstairs to my room. I first took a quick shower and changed into boxers and an old shirt. I took out my sketchpad and decuded to continue my work.

I was in the middle of doing the middle subject when I yawned. I decided to eat downstairs and after that, I went back to drawing. My piece is almost complete. All I need to do now is add depth to the characters and I'll be finished.
