Chapter One

Summer lays restless on her queen sized bed fit for two. She’s been so burned out lately, since she just started her job which consists of looking after her neighbor’s bratty children hours on end.

Their mother tends to stay out later than Summer wishes for, but that gives her the chance to finally settle down on the sofa and watch some cartoons she used to watch as a little girl on the television.

She would offer the entertainment to the kids, but they never seem to oblige since the cartoons are ‘older than their mother’. So they head off to their rooms and fall asleep without another peep from their tiny little mouths.

She would only shrug and continue watching while listening to her favorite songs that spills out of the one ear bud that is in her ear, trying to pass time while waiting for their mother to return home.

The mother never got home on time, but she makes up for it by paying almost double what she was originally going to pay. Summer didn’t mind really, since it’s better than no money at all.

The sunlight from the clear window pooled over her face, causing her to wake up with sudden blindness and compulsion.

She blinked away the film from her eyes before sitting up rapidly and looking over to her alarm clock.

6:30 AM, it read with an irritating beeping sound that never seems to not be on her nerves.

With a groan, she pushes her hand onto the large snooze button on top of the electronic and curled up back on the bed, hoping to back to sleep.

She sure as hell didn’t want to wake up this early on a Sunday morning.

Summer covered her face with the pillow that was just resting under her head. She loved the darkness that the pillow has given her, but with the lack of air that she received, she threw the pillow off her head and towards no given spot in her room.

She heard the pillow thump against the floor.

"C’mon Summer!" A female voice boomed in her room. "It’s 6:30 in the morning, wake up and come downstairs for something to eat."

Her Aunt, Sara, is known for being an early bird. Summer still, after all these years, doesn't know how Sara is capable of waking up so early without even complaining.

Summer groans in response, still not wanting to wake up. She knew that Aunt Sara is not going to take no for an answer, but she put that thought aside and cuddled more into her blanket.

She can feel the death glare from across the room that seems to be targeted at her skull.

"How about we..." her aunt pauses to think of something in the short span of time she was allowed to have. "How about we go out to eat for breakfast!"

She clasped her hands together as she waited for a response from the exhausted girl in front of her. Summer finally gave in and rolled onto her back, peeling her eyes open, and sighed.

She sat up, feeling the gravity pulling her down to the bed, and swung her legs to the side of the bed to stand up, “It’s the first day of summer vacation, y’know that right?”

Her aunt nods with a smile on her face before telling her to be ready in half an hour then leaving the room so she can get ready.

Summer did as so, sporting denim shorts that cover most of her bum, a black shirt that was loosely tucked in and her natural wavy hair which is barely reaching past her shoulder blades.

She stepped into a pair of her favorite combat boots, black with zippers on the sides for show.

She checked herself out twice in her full length mirror that leaned against her white-chipped painted wall.
