PART 3

The kindly man who held me the night my parents died became my father figure since then. The family business was run by a trustee of our family.

I was left with a huge, empty house and a fortune. But I had no one to share it to.

Loneliness tastes like champagne. It burns a path on your throat until it settled in the pit of your stomach. It can also be the empty halls of a large mansion, or the cold rain on your face. It can be the hopelessness of a losing game.

But, either way, it just feels the same.

"Hello? Earth to Alli."

I was pulled away from my thoughts by an extremely annoying Danna.

"You're spacing out again. You didn't even listen to what I said. I feel like I'm a fool here!" she scolded.

"Sorry."

"Anyway, had you seen the skirt Sara is wearing? It's microscopic, for God's sake! It looks like a belt!"

"Yeah. You can practically see her ass when she walks," I said.

"Alli! Allison!" I heard a male voice from behind me. I turned, and was rewarded to see one of the hottest guys in school running after me, Andrew Young. Not that I had a crush on him, no. He is one of my best friends. Aside from Danna, that is.

He fucking looks good. He has short blonde hair, and fantastic ocean blue eyes. He was 6"1 and has a to-die-for body. His tight shirt outlines his flexing biceps and six-pack abs. him being my best friend didn't mean that I cannot fantasize about him.

I got envy looks from girls around me particularly from the slutty group of Sara Castro. That bitch really needed to loosen up.

"Oh, hi, Drew," I greeted him.

"Alli," he nodded. "And, oh, hey Dan."

"Hello Drew."

"Where are you the whole day?" I asked. "I didn't saw you around."

"Missin' me much?" he joked. I raised an eyebrow. "Well, I got detention," he finally admitted.

"Huh? Why?" Dan was the first to ask.

"Just a prank I pulled out for the freshmen," he shrugged. "Some ass had seen and reported me to the office. Had a good laugh though."

"Tell me about it," I snickered. We are juniors, you see. And we are not practically role models.

Andrew is also a vampire hunter like me. Danna is the only one who doesn't know in our trio. Sometimes, I feel guilty. It seems like we're betraying her. We are her best friends after all. But I just take comfort on the fact that she didn't have nightmares because of it.

We rode in my car to get home. We sang our butts off on the way. It's fun to live normal like this, when only in a few hours I'll be part of the dark.

When Dan had gotten off, Drew turned to me.

"You have an assignment," he said. He told me the specifics and I drove him to his house.

"Be careful, okay?" he warned me. "Don't take unnecessary risks."

"Okay, daddy," I smirked. He's so concerned sometimes. Like I can't take care of myself. I'm a good vampire hunter, after all. Twelve years of training definitely paid off.

"Good luck," he smiled, and then kissed me on the cheek.

I laughed, and then drove off. I can see him waving from my rear view mirror.

Another task tonight, I thought. I better get on with it.
