J'o-Ji and his friends, slipped across the darkened forest. Some of them were giggling nervously, others stoic, the rest were terrified. Joseph was one of the stoic ones. He thought it amusing, what people who'd never fought supervillains found scary.
Of course, Joseph was an alien. An alien made up of Kryptonian and Martian blood. Half and half. He'd been told his parents had a novel worthy romance. He didn't believe that. He believed his father was a prick. The one good thing his only remaining parent had done for him was dump him on Earth and give him to Kal-El for him to be trained. Trained into something more than a lost and outcasted alien. His double life as a hero was a secret, a secret that nobody, but other heroes, could know. He would keep it that way.
"Joe.." Came a faint voice using his 'human' name, bringing him out of his thoughts. "I don't like it here.." The voice belonged to his girlfriend, Lilac Hill, six months dating. She was small, delicate and studious. Lilac and Joe had nothing serious, as he was only fourteen, and she thirteen. They didn't even really like each other that much. Their primary cause for dating was that everybody else was doing it. She worried a lot. Of course he was concerned about her too. He often feared holding her too tightly, thinking she might break from his strength.
"Come on... It's not so bad.." J'o gave her a small smile of encouragement.
"Said the idiot in all the horror movies.." Lilac (or Lilly as she liked to be called) rolled her eyes. She took his arm and squeezed it, her violet/indigo eyes swivelling to survey the background.
Of course she had a right to be afraid. The atmosphere was dark grey, almost blue, in an unnatural sort of way. The wind howled, like a scream. The trees leered and extended their branches, reading to snatch at any sort of foe. Upon the patchy, dark, soil, was the stench of fear. A long time ago, there was a legend of this place. The usual horror story that children adore to gossip about. An uncreative tale of witches and demons residing in the woods, and beyond that, the gothic churchyard. It was a laughable rumour, so unrealistic and unoriginal. A haunted churchyard? Witches. Those things did not exist - yet the woods did make it's way into uncanny valley. Nothing was right about it.
