Footsteps echo
Breaking hearts everywhere
Including mine
The heart you said mattered
But obviously doesn't
How do you walk away
Without a single piece of glass
Dripping from your eyeLaughing joyfully
Causing smiles all around
Except mine
You took my smile
And wear it as your own
You left me with a frown
And an empty glass heartStanding still
Almost as if the world froze
You saw my tears
Yet you could still say nothing
You reached out
But pulled back hesitant
I wanted you to reach for me
To pull me out of this depth
Of clear cold glassSitting beside me
You felt warm
You said you would never leave
But as always you lied
You left the space beside me
Cold like a broken heart
I don't know why
I thought you could
Fix the broken glass
Inside a broken bodyI've always wondered
Why I fell for you
A person who was not like me
A person with a heart of steel
Whose heart was never broken
Not by me
Not by anyoneFootsteps echo
My eyes were set on you
I could feel my heart break in two
As I saw you were fine after everything
So I walked away wondering
How you were without
A single piece of glass
Dripping from your eyeLaughing joyfully
It was all a show
Inside I was in turmoil
The pain I caused you was for the better
I hated that you never truly smiled
As if I took it away from you
Left with a frown
And an empty glass heartStanding still
My heart was beating fast
I saw your tears
But even when I tried
A word never left my lips
I wanted to touch you
To comfort you
I even reached out to you
But I pulled away
Thinking you didn't want me
To help pull you out of this depth
Of clear cold glassSitting beside me
You felt cold
I said I would never leave
I didn't want to leave
I didn't mean to leave
For it to seem like a lie
As I walked away
I knew what I had done
The pain etched on your face
I just didn't have time
To fix the broken glass
Inside a broken bodyNot by anyone
Not by me
Whose heart was never broken
A person with a heart of steel
A person who was not like me
Why I fell for you
I'll always wonder
