F A C T :
At one point in the Revolution Alexander hamilton, Charles Lee and a bunch of troops were across the Hudson River from the rest of the army, and Hamilton and a few other men were destroying bags of flour so the British, that were supposed to come soon, wouldn't get to them. The troops saw the British coming and began to retreat by marching off, but Hamilton and the other few men were left by the shore of the river with a heck of a lot of redcoats approaching. They had a boat and fled back across the river (under gunfire) but one man died, another was wounded, and they bailed and began to swim but made it back just fiiiine. However, Lee assumed Hamilton was dead and reported it to Washington. They were drinking and mourning him when he showed up in the doorway, dripping wet.
S T O R Y :
Alexander Hamilton followed Lee's orders, though he still wished it was him giving them. Hamilton, Lee and a few other soldiers worked as the other soldiers dragged the bags in from the shore. Hamilton struck the bag with his dagger and shoved it to Lee's side. The General rolled his eyes as he stacked the bags.
"Hamilton, stop being childish. You need to.... get the hell out of here!" Lee looked over Alexander's head, his eyes grew as he scrambled to his feet, marching off his most of the soldiers. Hamilton, confused, turned back and saw British soldiers approaching. '"Oh, Merde.." Hamilton ran with the rest of the soldiers to the shore to see Lee and the rest of the troops rowing back. Lee's eyes scanned the shore but couldn't see Hamilton or the soldiers. Before they could call out, Lee ordered the troops to row faster. Behind them, the soldiers heard gunfire.
Hamilton found the second boat and managed to get several yards from the shore as the British arrived. Nex to Hamilton, a soldier gasped and fell back, a bullet in his chest. Horrified, Hamilton and the soldiers saw the British firing at them on the shore. "Jump over!" Hamilton yelled as he dove into the river, struggling to keep his head up as the soldiers created waves in panic. Bullets struck the boat, just inches above their heads. Hamilton dove under, frantically kicking and paddling himself forward.
Lee entered Washington's office, rehearsing what he had to say over in his mind. But seeing John Laurens standing and talking with Washington, Lee's job became ten times harder. He swallowed and stepped forward, getting their attention.
"Ah, Lee! I just heard that the British arrived sooner... glad to see you made it back alright with most of your troops. Where's Hamilton?" Laurens sat on the edge of Washington's desk, nodding as if to second the question. Lee stood in front of Hamilton's two closest friends, A feeling of dread washing over him.
"uh... um, eh... you see..." Lee stumbled over his words, trying to buy more time. Washington crossed his arms. Laurens swung his legs out impatiently. "Alexander..." Lee looked down, his breath starting to tremble. He was standing next Hamilton's desk. He ran his finger over the frayed feather of Hamilton's quill. Lee couldn't believe he felt sad. Sure, he had a big mouth, But the kid had grown on him. Lee sighed as he lifted his head, looking at the wall behind the men, avoiding their eyes. "Hamilton is dead."
~
Lee watched as Laurens and Washington sat at the table in the corner, an empty seat between them. Thier faces showed no emotion, but their eyes said it all. Laurens' eyes were red from his crying. Washington and Laurens' eyes were filled with a deep sadness as they drank in memory of their friend. Lee let a few tears drop into his drink before pushing it away. A few soldiers behind him were talking about the kid who seemingly would never shut up. Lee hid his face in his hands, wishing for nothing more than Alexander next to him nagging about how bad of a General he was. Alexander would say he would be better than him, and this time Lee would agree, giving his command to the kid. across the room, Laurens glared at Lee, wishing the same thing.
"Yo, who died?" The voice came from the open door. Lee spun around to see Alexander Hamilton in the doorway, soaked in water. Lee, along with the rest of the soldiers, were frozen. "Alexander!" Laurens jumped from his seat, running and hugging the drenched soldier. Washington hurried to Hamilton's side, his face filled with shock, but joy as he pulled Laurens off him just to hug him tighter. Alexander stepped back, confused. Laurens and Washington started to explain but were cut short as Lee flung himself into Hamilton's arms, saying I'm sorry, I am so sorry over and over again.
"Wait, sorry for what? Lee, what did you do?" Washington barked in Lee's face, startling everyone in the room. Lee looked at Alexander and John before explaining that he left him on the shore as British soldiers approached. Laurens gasped and pulled Hamilton back into his arms, hugging him again, Glaring at the General. Lee lowered his head and walked passed them on his way out, sensing he was banned from the party. As he passed, Laurens grabbed him by the arm and hissed in his ear,
"You're dead, Lee... Just give me one more reason to pull my trigger. Please."
