Can't Keep Holding On

After watching movies all night with a bunch of sentient robots, you wanted nothing more than to go home, crawl into bed, and maybe watch some SpongeBob vines. You did not expect this.

Where had your mind been as everything changed around you? Up in the clouds? Or maybe with those robots. Either way, you were full of anger.

Is this how your family, screwed up as it is, would fall apart right in front of your restless minds eye?

You thoughts raced a mile a minute, and you could not concentrate for the life of you.

After you had left Baby's, you had your secrets meeting with Mike. He was your childhood friend, and you were mortified to have to leave so suddenly. But that was not the problem. Don't think for a second it was.

Your phone would keep ringing, even after you got home. You finally answered.

"Hello?"

"(Name)!" Your aunt's voice burst through the line in a haze of static. "He's gone, oh my Lord he's gone!"

You were now worried. "Who is? Where are you? Whose gone-"

"Hold on, let the memories catch up with me." She seemed only very slightly calmed. You nervously began to bite your nails.

"I'm so sorry, (name), it's all my fault, I should have listened to him- but I didn't, and now he's gone-!"

"Wait, (Aunts Name)! Who is gone? What the hell happened?!"

She released a shaky sigh. "It's Fen. He-he's dead. Gone. Found him in bed this morning."

You collapsed onto the couch. You couldn't even muster up the energy to cry. You were completely drained. Your aunt kept speaking.

"He-he said, before, that he was having nightmares. Bad ones. D-dangerous ones. He said, in his sleep, he would be attacked from all sides by his 'friends.' That he would be up from 12 to 6, every day, 'fighting them off.' " she paused to take a deep breath. "And we-we just ignored him, brushed it off as a child's overactive imagination. He tried to tell us, (name). But we ignored him."

"Until, just a couple of days ago, he came to me one last time, and showed me a-a..." she let out a shaky sob. "It was a fucking slash, (name). It was deep and bloody and he told me his friends did it. I was so pissed, (name). So mad. I told him that, "just because you have no friends doesn't mean that you should be hurting yourself for attention." I sent him to his room." You could feel your arms shaking, so you put the phone on speaker and dropped it onto the floor.

"And-and then..." She broke down sobbing, and you couldn't find it in you to even try to comfort her. Instead, you picked your phone up, pressed End Call, and threw it into the nearest wall hard. It slammed into the wall with a loud and very obvious crack.

You don't know what we've been through. Things got worse when we met you.

You don't know what we've been through. We'll show you what we've been through!

You sat on the ground, knees drawn to your chest, and wrapped your arms around them.

My name is Eggs Benedict, but I won't be working the breakfast shift!

This job had no prerequisite. Does that mean I should've been hesitant, instead of just accepting it?

Cause I'm digging up a couple skeletons with artificial intelligence.
