Chapter 2

The sun was shining when we arrived at East Shore High School. It was a beautiful day, just like every other day in Malibu, California. After breakfast I had headed up stairs to get ready for school. After debating with myself on what to wear I finally decided on a pair of black Paige denim shorts and strapless Hawaiian shirt from Abercrombie and Fitch. Even though it was October it still felt like summer here in California. It was on of the few things I loved about California. I had never really been one for cold weather.

When I turned the corner in the direction of my locker I spotted my two best friends already lounging by it. They were both leaning against the lockers, in what looked like to be a heated argument. But what else was new? As I approached I wondered what the topic was about today.

“I so don’t believe that he is gay, I mean have you seen him? I mean the boy is just so gorgeous, dreamy, and unspeakably beautiful! You name it! He is NOT gay,” Diana threw her arms up in the air to make a point. I lifted a quizzical eyebrow at them.

Diana was tall, blue eyed, blonde, and tan in other words she was, what boys would say smoking hot.  She also just happened to be East Shores star volleyball player, leading them to three consecutive championship titles, all the boys (and girls) pretty much worshiped her. Plus her parents basically owned all the hotels in the area, making her what some would say a snobby rich kid. But I knew otherwise. Diana wasn’t snobby and stuck up, like most people would expect her to be, she didn’t really care about the latest trends were or the ‘what is new’ with the cutest couple in school. That’s what I liked about her. She was so genuine.

“I’m not saying he is! I’m just saying that he came out of the closet on Oprah last night and that he so could pass for a gay guy! But it was probably just some stupid publicity stunt his manager made him do,” Angela threw her hands right back in Diana’s face.

Angela on the other had, was small, petite, and well small. Coming just over five foot she had long auburn hair that flowed down her back, light blue eyes, and lots of freckles that spotted her nose and cheeks. She was what people would call cute. But all that was seriously a disguise, because I had never ever met someone so utterly terrifying, when she wants to be. Once, after a bad break up with a boyfriend, when we were at the bowling alley and the waitress brought her the wrong order, I thought the waitress was going to start crying when Angela got up and started yelling. Poor girl, her lip started quivering right on the spot. We soon learned a little to late that it was her first day on the job and she had just picked up the wrong order. But underneath all that, she truly was a good friend when it counted.

“Who, Justin Johnson?” I interjected before it became a death match, “Yeah I herd that on Oprah last night. It upset a lot of people. But just because he is so amazingly gorgeous.” I smiled at them.

“Hey!” Angela chirped, “We were just talking about him,” I rolled my eyes, “ Diana here thinks he is definitely is not gay, I on the other hand think he could pass as an awesome gay guy. Don’t you think?”

“He is so not!” Diana argued.

“Ok, ok, I know exactly how we can handle this,” Angela said with a grin. “Charlotte can you bring your brother over here?”

“Oh no you don’t!” I laughed, “ You are not bringing Daniel into this one, he already settled last weeks debate over whether Doritos really puts a chemical into their foods to make it addicting, I thought was totally unnecessary.”

“Fine, we’ll just have to settle it the old fashioned way,” she smiled, “Rock, paper, scissors.”

“ Really you’re going to go there again? Rock, paper, scissors?” Diana replied. Rolling her eyes.
