Chapter 3

“Daniel do you know where my Calvin Klein blouse is?” I yelled down the hallway.

“Why do you have to have that very blouse? You have a huge closet full of clothes! Why can’t you just pick a shirt! I’m going to be late for the most important game of my entire high school career, and it’s going to be all your fault!” He yelled back.

“Yes, well this just might be the most important day of my life!”

“Oh my god! We’re going to a basketball game, not a fashion show!”

“After the basketball game, nitwit.”

“Yes, yes I know all too well about your date with Trey. But seriously he’s probably just taking you to an after party where you are going to get drunk anyway! Then it won’t matter what you are wearing!”

“Oh you’re a positive thinker,” sarcastic dripping from my words. “Found it. Happy?” I said walking down the stairs. I was wearing a white ruffled Calvin Klein blouse paired with a pair of jean shorts, blue and orange knee socks (school colors), and my white converse.

“Oh my! The princess has blessed us with her presence. Are you done? Can we finally step out the door a half hour later?” Daniel said sarcastically.

“I told you, you could have left without me… but you obviously didn’t listen, so you have nobody to blame but yourself,” I said with slight smirk on my face.

“What would have been the point of that? You just would have had to leave your brand new, EXPENSIVE, car at school. Unless you aren’t planning on getting a ride with Trey.” He lifted his eyebrows at me.

I just rolled my eyes and walked past him out the door.

As I approached Dan’s black, totally pimped out, Escalade, Dan and Trey had worked on it themselves, I stopped. Something wasn’t right.

“Come on Char I’m going to be late!” yelled Daniel from the car.

“Do you feel that?” I asked.

“Feel what?”

“Someone is watching us Dan.”

“Don’t even joke about that. Now lets go.”

A strong wind was coming in from the west. Clouds were rolling in, there was a storm coming, I could feel it in my bones. It would come crashing down and there was nothing I or anyone else could do about it.

Reluctantly I got in the car. But I couldn’t shake the feeling. Turning up the volume on the radio I leaned back into the leather seats and put my head against the window. Watching the world go by. Trying to take my mind off of everything and anything I started thinking about Trey and my date tonight. I started feeling a little nervous.

As Daniel went flying by an intersection something caught my eye, and this time I knew I had seen it. “They’re here,” she said under her breath. Just as Dan slammed on the breaks. Someone was standing in the road blocking their way. Someone who was dressed in all black, someone who was way to big to be human. He loomed in front of them just standing there. Not doing anything. Not saying anything. We just stared at each other for what seemed like forever. Ever so slowly he began walking towards us, with every step he got faster until he was in a full out run. Just as he was about to leap at us a small figure interjected him. Slamming into the side of the big man at full force. There was a bright flash of light, then nothing. As our eyes began to adjust to the dark skies we saw nothing but a pile of ash in the place of the man. Standing over was a boy, who looked to be our age. He had thick curly hazelnut hair, he wore nothing but black. Black pants matched with a black leather jacket and black boots. Slowly Daniel and I got out of the car.
