The Lestranges

Chapter Three

For Cassie, flying was her favourite subject. Her class was the best, there was no Dylan, but Leo, Pippa, Lilah, and Andrew were in it, and Leo's friend Alec. There was also that girl Abigail that Cassie remembered from the sorting, she was always the funniest in the class, she managed to fall off her broom 6 times in 5 minutes, it didn't look like she was going to make the Quidditch team. Cassie wanted to try out though, she likes Quidditch, her and Pippa were quite good at it. Lilah, not so much.

All of Cassie's class stood in a row with their brooms by their sides, Madam Hooch was going to pair them to find a snitch. It was unlikely that they would catch it, but she was hoping. "Okay, I'm going to pair you up. You and your pair will work together to catch the snitch, and if anyone manages to they'll get 50 house points. Is that clear?"

"Yes Madam Hooch."

"Okay, so, Leo, you can go with Abigail...Lilah with Alec, Pippa and Andrew..." She started, until Cassie was the only one left, apart from one girl. Penelope Parkinson. "So Cassiopeia, do you want to be with Penelope?"

"Miss, are you sure you don't want Cassie to be with someone more...at her level?" Penelope asked, her face looking more annoyed that when Lilah had accidently called her a baby-face. She wasn't a really a baby-face, Penelope was actually quite pretty, but it was the way she tried to put others to shame that pissed everyone else off.

"Actually, Miss Parkinson, I paired you with Miss Lestrange because you two have appeared to be the most able in this class." Madame Hooch said. "Now go and try and catch the snitch before someone else does."

Penelope sighed and rolled her eyes, picking up her broom and scowling at her partner. She flew off, Cassie followed her, not wanting to cause an argument. Cassie hated having anyone dislike her, it was why she tried to avoid Penelope and Dylan, and the other boy they hung out with, Sebastian. She knew that Penelope and Pippa used to be friends, they were both in the pure blood families after all, but ever since the sorting they hadn't spoken. Instead Penelope had spoken to Jessica, Pippa's older sister, thinking it was cool to have friends in the year above.

Suddenly, in the corner of her eye, Cassie noticed a flash of gold. "Hey, Penelope, look over there..." Cassie said, as Penelope followed her eye line.

"Oh yeah..." Penelope grinned, and shot after it, nearly knocking Cassie off her broom as she shot past. Cassie sighed and followed her, keeping calm. It was a relief that Lilah or Andrew hadn't been paired with Penelope, they probably would have slapped her. Well, Lilah would have, Andrew would probably just kick her, slapping was a bit to girly for him.

"Penelope! Wait up, we're supposed to be working together!" Cassie said as she caught up.

"Oh, you really are stupid." Penelope grinned. "I would never work with you, or your brother."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Asked Cassie. She assumed that Penelope was saying that because of her mother. Cassie never really understood why people took so much offense to the name 'Bellatrix Lestrange', she wasn't bad at all. Was there something she didn't know?

While Penelope swerved left, following the snitch, Cassie went right and caught it, cornering it. "We got it!" Cassie cried.

"No!" Penelope cried, flying right up to Cassie and snatching it out of her hand. She took her wand out and cast a spell, snapping Cassie's broomstick clean in half before she could react. Cassie screamed as she fell almost 50 metres down to the ground, landing with a big thud. Penelope flew down next to her, pretending to care. "I caught it, not you."

Before she could respond, she fell unconscious. Madam Hooch ran over, distress all over her face. "What happened here?"

Everyone else had rushed over, just staring at Cassie. Leo leant down and picked up the broom that was snapped in half, looking at Penelope in shock. Broomsticks didn't just snap, they were not broken so easily. "Madam Hooch, I caught the snitch." Penelope grinned, presenting the little gold sphere.

"I meant what happened to Cassiopeia!" Madam Hooch exclaimed.

"Penelope broke her broomstick."Pippa gasped, taking one half of it from Leo. "Penny, I never thought you'd stoop that low. She could have died!"

"I did not!" Penelope protested. "And don't call me Penny."

"I'll kill you! No one hurts my sister!" Leo cried running up to Penelope and punching her strait in the face, her nose started bleeding but she just started laughing.

"Mr Lestrange!" Madam Hooch said, her eyes widening. "The headmistresses office, now! Miss Parkinson, I suggest you join him, and clearly in was magic that broke Miss Lestrange's broom, and you were the only person near enough to her to do this. The two of you, off you go!"

Leo stormed off, and Penelope followed him, wiping the blood off her face. Abigail had started crying, she wasn't used to all the violence. Lilah tried not to laugh.

Bellatrix sat in her bedroom crying. It had been so long since Rodolphus died, and yet she still mourned him everyday. Why did he have to die? Why couldn't she just die instead, he would have so much better with Cassie and Leo than she could be. She still felt a sense of anticipation, like she was excited to see him in the afterlife. She couldn't think about that though, she had reasons to live on, Cassie and Leo were everything to her.

Narcissa had suggested seeing other guys, to help her get over it. Bella would never do that.

It wasn't that she just missed him, her guilt was undeniable. She had let another man be with her, she had cheated on him without knowing. She really was evil. She loved Leo, but when he lost his temper he was spitting image of Tom Riddle, he was scary. She didn't allow herself to prefer Cassie, because of her father, but sometimes she didn't feel safe with him in the house, both of them were a little unpredictable. The clairvoyance could be very difficult to avoid, she panicked that Cassie would find out the truth about everything, tell Leo, and he'd flip out. Leo wasn't really Leo Lestrange, after all. He was Leo Riddle.
