I wake up to the sounds of birds chirping a sweet melody. "Today's the day," I mutter happily.My girlfriend and I have been planning for me to finally meet her parents, we have been dating for two years and thought that it would be best if we got her family's blessings before we take the next step.
I let out a quiet yawn as I walk towards the bathroom. I step into the shower and let the water hit my face. I feel as though the water is washing away all the pain and regret- "but you don't have any regrets," A voice in my head whispers, I wonder why that thought even came to me. I step out of the shower, the smooth, white tiles felt cool beneath my feet. I feel as though I am forgetting something- "No I'm not," the voice assures, I decide that it must not be something worth remembering. I glance at the mirror and see my reflection, a square jaw, light blue eyes and sloppy blonde hair that looks to be too long. I then walk back to my room and put on a white t-shirt and jeans. "Something's wrong," I say as I push back my hair, "but everything is right."
I take a deep breath as I'm about to step into my girlfriend's house. I glance over at her with a nervous expression. Her golden hair and blue eyes sparkle in the morning light, "but I don't feel anything." I mumble as if in a trance.
"What was that?" She asked confused.
"Huh?" I respond, confused as to what I just said. "She's your adorable girlfriend. You love her."
"Everything's going to be fine," She assured, "they're gonna love you." She gave me a patient smile.
"Okay," I pretend to pout causing her to giggle, "I love you." I say as I reach for her hand. I feel nothing.
"I know." She smirks, but avoids my touch. I'm confused, but I decide not to address it. Out of the corner of my eye I see something black run by. "Let's go inside." She says as I open the door. I allow her to go in first.
"What was that?" I whisper. "It's nothing." the voice says quietly, "You're finally happy."
