"Hey, sleepy-head! You have eight minutes until training starts!" Vixen's voice yelled from behind Jade's door.
"Okay, I'm going!" Jade yelled back and Vixen went elsewhere. It was almost eight o'clock in the morning.
Jade noticed that she had a whole closet of training clothes to wear. Three pairs of new white tennis shoes sat in a drawer. Jade threw on a blue T-shirt and tan shorts. She tied the laces of one pair of shoes she was wearing. Jade even found a bunch of ponytail holders in a small drawer. She was starting to like having the whole room to herself. The other three beds were empty, but Jade no longer minded.
When Jade walked into the hallway, a swarm of kids and teenagers were going upstairs. Charlie was probably still in his room playing with his friends. Jade followed the stream until they were outside. Jade realized she was behind the Main House.
People started branching off into different directions. The training area was huge. It looked like it was split into five sections. Water, air, earth, fire, and combat. Jade wondered why elementals needed a combat place.
Jade walked up to a pair of 14 year old boys who were making light and flames appear with their hands. Their elements were probably light and flames.
"Um, hi. My name is Jade. I'm new and I don't know what my element is... Do you guys know where I should go?" Jade asked them. They both turned around to look at her.
"Most new people just go around and try stuff. If it doesn't work, it's not your element." Flame boy answered. The light boy nodded as if agreeing.
"Okay, Thanks!" Jade waved and searched the fire element area. She spotted Kai quickly.
"Hey, Kai. I'm Jade, remember? I heard I was supposed to try fire things to see if I had a fire branched element. What should I do?" Jade felt dumb asking so many questions. She was a straight A student and she was not normally confused. Kai just stood and thought for a moment.
"Here, follow me to The Red Pond." Kai started walking. Jade followed and they ended up at a pond. The Pond was not just any old pond, though. It was filled with steaming lava.
"Are you going to make me touch it?" Jade asked Kai in a timid voice. She did not even want to go near the boiling red lava.
Kai just chuckled. "Of course not! You can only go into The Red Pond if you are able to without getting injured. All I want you to do is see how close you can get to it." Kai stepped right up to the edge. Jade gasped as he stuck his hand in. It came out perfectly fine, though.
"Okay. As long as I don't have to touch it." Jade gulped. She slowly inched towards the Pond. Jade could feel the warmth strongly. It seemed to burn her skin. When she got about four feet away from The Red Pond, Jade broke out into a sweat. The heat was unbearable. Jade knew it before Kai even opened his mouth.
"You're definitely not branched from warmth. If you were, you could at least get as close as I am. Maybe not in it, but pretty close. One more thing, though." Kai flashed something in Jade's eyes and she immediately closed her eyes from the harsh light.
"You can open your eyes now." Kai spoke and Jade obeyed. He had turned off that horribly bright light. "You're not branched from light either. So you're not branched from the fire element. If I were you, I would go find an element you are most comfortable with. If you like to swim, go try out water. If you are a tree-hugger, go check out earth. Don't bother with elements you hate. Not that you hate fire, though, right?" Kai smirked and Jade smiled back. She waved goodbye and left for the earth section.
Finally, something that made sense. Jade was a gardener and a farmer. Maybe she had an element that had to do with flowers or something. Jade had a good feeling that she was branched from the earth element.
