C H A P T E R - F I V E

           

"It's simple. Just add the chemicals that are already on your working table. Be careful." Ms. Jacobs said.

It's already our Chemistry period, so I'm paired up with Will. "Why green? I want purple." Ellie complained as she starts putting up all the chemicals on the opposite side of the table.

"Just do what she says." I rolled my eyes and started putting a little bit of boric acid, borax, and copper sulfate into the test tube.

"I'll add the mixed solution into the fire." Will told me as I handed him the test tube.

The flame grew bigger and its color turned to vivid green when Will poured the solution.

"You've done well Ms. Gray and Mr. Baker." Ms. Jacobs said as she saw our green flame. "Thank you, Ms. Eva." We both responded.

As Ms. Jacobs left our table, I stared blankly in the green fire. I remember about the accident that happened to Sophia, and I remember about my dream last night.

Why am I worrying too much about Sophia? She's dead.

"Lucy!" Will waved his hand in front of my eyes, and my stare was cut off by him. "Yeah? What?"

"Are you alright? Your eyes are swollen. Did you cry last night?" Will gave me a worried look. "Uhm, no, it's nothing."

"Really Lucy?"

"Really."

"Hmm, well, as you say so." Our conversation stopped when we heard Bella and Ellie complaining to each other.

"No, I don't want to get burned. You do it!"

"No, you do it Bella! I know you're a pro at everything." She winked nervously.

"Ladies, ladies, just relax. Just pour it!" Andrew interrupted. "Fine, I'll do it." Bella exclaimed as she poured the solution into the fire. "There ya go. I'll be back in a minute Ethan." Andrew went out of the laboratory, leaving Ethan with the green flame on their table.

I glanced at Ethan, and his eyes are on mine exactly. He just smiled at me, and I smiled back. Eight minutes later Andrew came back. "What took you so long?" I heard Ethan exclaimed.

"I – uh – took the long way to the bathroom." He smiled wide.

"Alright class. Clean up everything before leaving the laboratory." The period has ended after fifteen minutes, and luckily, we had the highest score.

"Thanks Lucy." Will smiled and shake hands with me, "Yeah, Thanks too."

We were already cleaning up until I saw a figure on the other side of the laboratory's room, it was the same person I saw inside the mall.

"I'll treat you for lunch, come on." Will told me while holding the laboratory tools. "I'll just follow in the cafeteria, I have something more to do."

"Okay, sure. I'll return these now." He returned the tools and went outside of the room. I waited for everybody to leave the room. When they all left, still in my laboratory coat, I went to the other room.

I slowly opened the door and saw the figure doing something.

The room was a bit small, and it turned out to be a storage of other chemicals and materials. I hid behind a large cabinet of chemicals that is placed in the middle of the small room.

He's still wearing his hood over his head, wearing surgeon gloves, black pants, everything black. I think he didn't noticed me. He's playing with green fire. The fire went all over his hands, and he makes small balls of fire out of cotton.

He looks like he's bending with fire. Then he also made different fire colors. One with red color, blue, and purple color, just like Bella wanted too.

How come someone else had trespassed inside a closed laboratory?

I took a step back and tell any supervisor about it, but I made a wrong move. My hand slipped and bumped into a test tube rack, making the test tubes create noise.

I can't see his face but he knows that I'm here. I froze in where I am standing. He didn't turn around to see me.

He took five cotton balls slowly and lit it on fire, he threw it on me so fast and it went into my face. It touched my cheek and feel like it's burning my whole face.

I tried to get away, but the door was jammed. So I took a beaker and threw it at him, but I missed. I took a step backward because I don't know where to go.

He took out an alcohol burner and lit it. He threw the burner at me, I ducked and luckily it didn't hit me. The fire was spreading and getting bigger, the other chemicals from the cabinet fell off and spilled, creating a larger fire.

I looked back if he's still in there, but he's gone. How did he escaped? It was only seconds before he was gone.

"Help!" I screamed, hoping that someone can hear me. The fire is getting bigger and bigger, and the smoke is spreading. I can hear someone trying to push the door open.

"Lucy!" I can hear Will screaming from the other side.

"Hurry up before the fire gets bigger." I covered my mouth and nostrils with my hand. I can't move because the fire was surrounding me.

"Just stay in there! Don't move!" The door opened with a boost and Will entered into the room. "Shoot. Just don't move Lucy," he hurriedly went out of the room. Seconds later, he's carrying an extinguisher.

"Cover yourself Lucy." I covered my face and closed my eyes as I hear Will sweeping off the fire with the extinguisher. The fire went off and he went to me, "Are you alright? What happened?"

Before I could even speak, Ms. Eva entered into the room. "What is going on here?" Ms. Eva said with a confused look at us. "I saw someone in here. And he tried to kill me with fire."

"Who did it?" I looked at Will. I know they're not going to believe me if I answered 'what' and not a 'who' question. "I don't know who he is. He's wearing a black hoodie. I can't even see his face."

"I have to report this. If I have proven that it was you all along in this room, you have to face the consequences."

Ms. Eva walked away, "But he tried to kill me! I wasn't all alone!" She didn't look back. I'm so doomed. I knew this will happen.

"Tried to kill you? How?" Will asked me.

"Can't you see? He's playing with fire. There are his materials. He tried to kill me with those and threw the alcohol burner at me." I pointed at the small table where the man worked on.

"Let's just get out of here Lucy. Luckily, Andrew and I haven't left the place, so I heard you screaming."

When we got out of the room, I saw Andrew approaching to us. "Are you alright? I thought you just saw a large roach again." I slapped him in the back, "Not cool Andrew."

"Alright I'm sorry. What happened inside?" I told both of them what I saw inside.

"That's strange. Why would he do that?" Andrew asked. "I don't know. He was the same man I saw when we were at the mall. Like he's been stalking for me the whole time."

I took off my lab coat and hung it in my left shoulder.

"Let's just forget the whole thing. What's important is you're safe, for now." Will tapped my head.

"Yeah, maybe I should forget it."

"Yeah, forget it because I'm starving now. I've been waiting for you the whole time." Andrew said.

It's already lunch time, so we headed into the cafeteria.

Who could that be, and why he tried to kill me?

Maybe it's just another prank.

Like, fool around before the school year ends.

But it couldn't be.
