You open your eyes. You just had the best dream ever, and you'll never forget it; you met YoRHa Unit No. 2 Type B and saved her from a giant machine. You even carried her home and tucked her in. Icing on the cake.
You sit upright. Wait. This isn't your bed. Where are you?
Then it hits you; that wasn't a dream.
You instantly get up and sheathe your sword on your back. You walk over to her bed to find she isn't there, the blanket swept aside as if she was leaving in a hurry. Where did she go?
You open the door to the resistance camp. The resistance leader, Anemone, and all of the shopkeepers look at you. 2B is nowhere in sight, so you assume she left the camp. You awkwardly wave and smile at everyone and run back through the cracks in the buildings. It's better to be friendly than mysterious and hostile.
You enter the pond area. It is inhabited by various brain dead machines staring blankly into space, fish (both machine and real) wading in the waters, and a very attractive lady with short white hair donned in black. She sits on a miniature island facing the waterfall.
You approach the android. Her knees are bent up to her chest and her arms are wrapped around her legs. Her chin rests on her knees, her piercing grey blue eyes gazing into the falling water. Her military visor, katana, and greatsword lay by her side.
This is quite interesting. Something seems to be troubling 2B: something (or someone) built only to do and never to feel.
You walk up to her, look into the water, and take a seat alongside the android.
"I could have self-destructed right then and there."
"Huh?" you ask. You look over at her and notice her bottom lip start to quiver. Tears stream down her cheeks.
You put your arm around her shoulder. You feel astonished and heartbroken. What is making her upset? How is she feeling such emotion?
"What's wrong, 2B?" you ask her.
"I could have blown myself up when you had to save me, but..." She gazes into your eyes. "It was nice to have company again."
More tears flow from her eyes, and you feel like crying, too. You kneel in front of her, take her gloved hands in yours, and rub your thumbs over them. You then embrace her tightly. She buries her face into your chest just under your chin and sobs a little. You hold the back of her head against you.
Minutes pass as you slowly rock her and find tears of your own. You're not exactly sure what is bothering her, but the mere fact that she's so moved to tears being the stoic android that she is... It makes you feel miserable.
She slowly leans back after a while and closes her eyes. "9S is dead," she whispers. "He was corrupted during a fight, and the corrupted data was uploaded to the Bunker. They couldn't send another one of him..."
Your heart sinks. 9S must've meant so much to her.
"I'm sorry," you whisper back. You curse yourself for not being able to find anything better to say.
You hug her and watch the water crash into the pond for an eternity. The waterfall is like her eyes. It makes a pleasant sound that you could listen to forever with her in your arms.
