We wait outside the school after it ends. Everyone is screaming and yelling at each other. We sit on the back part of the benches with our feet on seat. I watch out for a car that could be for us. There's a couple of cars that turn up int front of us. Sasha then gets up of the seat and grabs her bag, walking to the car.
'You guys coming or not?' She turns around at faces us with her backpack on one shoulder. She turns back around and walk closer towards the curb.
We both grab our bags and stand a few feet behind her. We look at each other as she's standing in front of a wagon that was definitely made by Volvo. I know because it's the car my grandma used to drive.
'Sasha, not to take this the wrong way. But is that what we're driving in? Because then i think i should sit in front' Phoebe looks really afraid and also very confused. She knew Sasha was pretty wealthy so we sort of expected her to be wealthy.
But then two boys a year younger than us run right passed her and into the wagon. She just stands there. Until a topless car parks in front of Sasha, it's driven by a man. I watch Sasha as she talks to him.
She turns to us and waves us in, i watch Phoebe walk towards the car. Then i follow her. Sasha flips up the front seat then Phoebe walks behind it and sits in the back seat.
'Come on, Bree. Hop in' Sasha smiles right at me. I walk behind the seat and sits down in the white leather seats next to Phoebe. Sasha closes the seat and locks it into place. She sits in the car and shuts the door.
'Oh, Bree, Pheebs. This is my dad, Nathan. Dad, my friends, Sabrina and Phoebe' Sasha points us to her dad while putting on her dark-tinted sunglasses. I look at Phoebe's expression, we were both so amazed. I mean, we knew she was rich, but it's just a whole new meaning now. Sasha puts on the radio and it just starts playing the course 'Payphone' by Maroon5.
Sasha starts moving her hands to the beat and as soon as the songs plays 'all those fairytales are full of shit', her and her dad look at each other and say sing along with that part. I look out at the view on my side. Looking at the buildings, the people walking out of the stores. I suddenly remember how small the town is. How...normal.
We take a long-drive to Sasha's house just outside of the town. Sasha is laying there with her head on the head rest. Phoebe is on the phone, talking to Tegan about the paper layout. I sit there very quielty.
'So, Sabrina. What do your parents do for a living?' Nathan asks looking at me through the review mirror.
I look at the mirror 'Uh... my mum is in the writing business.' I explain to him.
'That sounds pretty interesting. What sort of things does she write?' He controls the car with both hands but he looks at the inside mirror, right at me.
'She writes a lot of novels, right now she's working on a book about turning 40' I tell him while her turns into a street off of the town track.
'Sounds like a good job. What does your dad do?' He stops at a red light and turns back to look at me.
'My dad's in the Army right now. He actually just got promoted to a Sergeant, which is like rank 5' I watch his face change. I always wonder why everytime i talk about my dad, everyone is very quiet.
'Well, that must be a very hard job to do and at least you know he's doing really well' He turns back when the lights to green, he turns into a street going down a street i haven't seen before.
I watch as we go passed a lot of the up-market houses.
We arrived at the house and it was like a large something. If you couldn't tell from their car they're rich, you can definitely tell form their house. When you turn into the driveway, it was a large, open paved courtyard with a fountain in the middle. The house sort of comes out as a box 'U' shape. It was beautiful.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sasha and her dad gets out first then the seat is opened and then Phoebe and I climb out of the back. I hear a dogs bark getting louder and louder. I can see a girl chasing after the dog in shorts and a tied buttoned-up shirt.
'Oh look who has come to join us. Hey Zuke, fetch,' Sasha's dad throws a large bone into the garden. Immediately, Zuke chases after it. Sasha closes the seat, locking it into place and then shuts the door.
'Ok, let's go to my room' Sasha looks at us and smiles with her pink blushed cheeks glowing, 'Ayla, you can join us, if you want.'
Ayla smiles and walks with us. Sasha walks beside me with Phoebe and Ayla behind us. Sasha puts her arm around me and holds on tightly.
We walk behind the house to a second building, it had a little porch connecting the two. We walked up the 3 steps onto the porch then to the second house. Sasha got her key from hey keyring she was holding and unlocked the door.
The room was amazing. It had a TV with beanbags with a queen-sized bunk bed. The bottom bunk was definitely Sasha's bed because of everything that was there, on the back-wall shelves. when you walked a few steps, on the left side of the room, there was Zukes room and on one side of his room there were stairs that went up to the level above us.
'This place is amazing! Did you really just move in here?' Phoebe stands at the door, just trying to believe it.
Ayla and Sasha walked right in and sat on their sofa that was placed in the middle of the room. I walked in behind them and looked at everything, very slowly.
After a few hours, we started playing a dance-a-thon. Of course, i was really bad at it. Phoebe was battling Sasha and, of course, Sasha won by a long shot. It was me and Ayla next. We were dancing to 'Good Feeling' by Flo Rida, who i knew nothing about. We had so much fun. I've never seen Phoebe smile and laugh as much as she did today. She was always freaking out about the paper and her parents divorce. I don't think i have ever been this happy either. It was fun.
We all then just sat down on the sofa, Sasha sitting next to me and Ayla sitting next to Phoebe.
'Do you guys wanna stay for a sleepover, i mean if you want to' Sasha looks at both me and Phoebe.
'I don't think i can, i have to get home. it's getting dark' Phoebe looks out at the window on the wall behind me and Sasha. 'I should call my mum to pick me up.' Phoebe gets up off the sofa and takes her phone out of her pocket.
'How 'bout you, Bree?' Sasha lies her head on my lap, looking right up at me.
'umm....I don't know.' I wanted to but it'll be without Phoebe.
An Hour passes, Phoebe walks up the driveway to the road when her mum turns up with the car. Sasha and i follow behind her. We walk up to her mum.
Phoebe gets into the front seat of the car, when her mum gets out and meets Sasha's mum.
'Hello, thank you for taking care of Phoebe today. I hope she wasn't too much trouble' Phoebe's mum shakes Sasha's mum's hand.
'It was no problem at all,.....' Mrs Van Camp stopped halfway, waiting for a a name to go with a face.
'Natalia.' Natalia was Phoebe's mum's
'Natalia, i'm Keiran' They continued shaking hands but this time with both hands.
They let go and Natalia walked around the car to the drivers seat, 'Would you like me to drop you off at your house, Sabrina?'
I looked at Keiran, 'No, i think i might stay here for the night. If you don't mind, Mrs Van Camp'
'Yes, of course you can and please it's Keiran' Keiran smiles and puts her hand on my shoulder.
I look over at Phoebe, who is looking down. She told her mum quietly to go home. She didn't look at me. I didn't know why.
'I'll see you tomorrow, Pheebs,' I yell over at her. But she doesn't look at me, i watched as her car drove away.
Did i do the right thing, by staying? I mean, it's just a sleepover. She could've stayed, if she wanted to.
