“You can run but you can’t hide,

I stood there in shock.

My eyes stiffened at the note.

“Knife, knife slits your throat,

I love to kill, I love to bloat.

I’m the ‘serial killer’ oh yes it’s me,

I’m so famous don’t you agree?

Knife, knife slits your heart,

I can’t stop killing when I start.

I’ve been waiting to kill quite for a while,

The blood, oh blood gives me a smile.

Knife, knife slits your ear,

And when you cry I start to cheer.

They try to catch me but they fail,

They will forever lose this trail.

Oh what have you got yourself into?

I will get you. I will get you like I got those five others. I’ll get you my dear. I’ll give you a tip, run - run as fast as you can. But you must know - I’m coming to get you. Now, this is going to be fun.”

I rubbed my eyes twice to see if I was dreaming. But it was there, written in black and white. My hands trembled, I could barely hold the exhausted paper. I breathed intensely shaking my head in disbelief. No, no, this a joke. A voice in my head surged away with ecstatic unsympathetic laughter.

A joke!? Is that a risk you’d like to take? It’s happening to you. Deal. With. It.

A perfectly round bead of sweat rolled to the centre of the note, staining it with a little damp salty circle of sweat.

I shuddered; my face trembling with fear.  I stared at the words written on the note for another few minutes, but there was one sentence that caught my gaze, one sentence that was persistently echoing in my ear; mesmerizing my head with consistent whispers haunting me. That one sentence sent chills up my spine.

Run - run as fast as you can...

Those stalking lines are clearly stolen from a children’s story book. What the hell do I do? Who am I running from? Which gender? Male, female? Yes, male, it has got to be a male. It’s always the male.

To ‘him’, this is all a joke, he serially kills people – successfully, and that’s what scares me the most. It’s definitely not a bluff, I’ve seen it in the news and people are dying. Now it’s my turn, my turn to die in whatever way he chooses, he doesn’t care, as long as I suffer – as long as he’s having fun.

Oh my God!

I just realized... if he has sent this note to my address, it means he’s got to know where I live.

It means he can come and get me, at anytime.

Please God, why me? Why me!

A tear trembled down my cheek. I rubbed it off with my arm.

I’m going to die.

Run – run as fast as you can…

I’m an idiot, instead of standing here feeling sorry for myself why don’t I try to get the hell out of here. I need to get of here fast.

I seized whatever I saw close at hand and crammed them into a flowery pink bag. I straightened my white tank top and long white skirt that I was already wearing, and stuffed my diamond white sandals on my feet. I ran my fingers through my hair to neaten it up, make it presentable. I licked my parched lips, engrossing it in spit. It’s time to go on an adventure, I joked to myself. I got myself out of my house, waving goodbye to it. And wistfully made myself to the bus shelter, digging into my pockets for some spare change.

There was only one last option. I thought I’d never use it, but it was the last resort. I sighed.

“I’m coming over to the house for a while, I’m not sure how long, I’ll be coming at around 8pm, see you! Love from V x” My fingers were in control. I can’t go back there. I hit the enter button. I will be safe there for some time, just a few days or so, I just need some place to stay… some safe place to go.

I shivered,

It’s freezing. I desperately tried to pull my short sleeves down for some warmth. I sighed: Stupid me, wearing short sleeves in this weather. I huddled my arms together, the bitterly cold wind dancing around me.

Well, I’d rather freeze to death than get killed by that monster. Whoever it is.

I felt my mobile vibrate in my pocket. I brought it out, staring at a text message by a private number, “Run rabbit run rabbit. Run! Run! Run!”

You’ve. Got. To. Be. Joking.
