Author's Note: This is probably my longest chapter, but anyways, Esther meets the King!
"Do you know the reason why the king banished his first queen?" Zara sat on the empty chair next to me.
"I've actually never cared to ask," I shrugged.
"She refused to dance."
"She refused to dance?" I raised a brow, "the king banished the queen because she refused to dance?"
"He was having his annual feast and commanded the queen to be brought in to dance before him and his guests, but the queen refused."
"So that's why she was overthrown?"
"No one can disobey the king Esther, not even the queen."
"I wonder why he'll cast out his next queen- she refused to eat?"
She laughed loudly, "probably, unless it's me. I'll do whatever the king demands of me! "
"Even if he demands you throw yourself in a swine's puddle?"
"Definitely!" She exclaimed.
We laughed
"I'm not a fond of all these palace laws," I sighed.
"That's for sure. They are unnecessary and overwhelming."
"And have you ever seen the king?" I asked.
"Unless the many pictures of him on my wall in my house counts, no, not in person."
"So we've all never seen him before?"
"I wouldn't think so. After all, we were captured."
"Hmmm"
"Ladies!" Hegai's loud voice silenced the room full of chatters and gossip. "Can you believe it? After a year of treatments and lessons, the selection process finally begins in just two short days."
There was cheering and whooping in the room.
"It will be devastating to see all of you except one go. I've gotten warm to each and everyone of you. If it were my decision, I'd make all of you my queen," he twirled.
We laughed loudly.
"But of course, it's the king's choice and unfortunately, he is to only make one choice of a queen. Now ladies, as it is just right around the corner, today we will be quickly giving you tips and informing you on what to expect when you go in for your night with the king, as well as covering the rules, laws, rights, and limitations of a queen. I will do a lot of talking, as always. And it will be exhausting and overwhelming. I will try to be straight and get through it quickly. Just pay good attention."
He sat down on his fancy cemented stool.
"Shall we begin?"
We clapped in response.
"I'm just so very excited," he squealed. "Now ladies, you only have one night to impress the king. No other nights or days. Your night with the king is all about attracting him, making him fall in love with you, fulfilling his body desires," he spoke with big hand expressions.
"You want the king to remember you out of many other beautiful ladies. Remember, you are trying to win the king's favor. You want to look at him straight into the eyes at all times. You want to keep your eyes soft but firm, your smile slight yet glorious. Try not to have too much to say. Whatever he wishes of you that night, grant it to him. For it is only the two of you behind those doors in his chambers that night. And you are not to reveal the mystery of your night with the king to any other candidates, women servants, or myself. What else," he clapped,
