Time went by too slow when you were waiting for something unfortunate to happen.

Or for someone unfortunate to come by.

Logan had hoped that he would have gotten a notice from his dad when he was coming. Then the right preparations could have been made. There would have been time for him to ease his dad into the idea that he had a serious relationship and he was maybe thinking about sort of settling down.

But no.

His dad decided to come at the most unfortunate time possible. His brother was staying all alone with somebody younger to look after. Already one rule was broken. He was on vacation. That also must have broken some rule in his dad's book. Finally he had a serious girlfriend. He was sure that that broke a rule.

And now a yelling war was bound to break out between the two of them. His explosive character had after all come from somebody.

The battle that was about to come brought him a lot of anxiety.

He had spent that evening with Dan in their apartment without Alessa or Nic just waiting for his dad to come.

He never showed up.

Dan had school the next day and Logan didn't have work until the next day. Logan hoped that his dad would come in the meantime, because Dan didn't deserve to be part of the yelling match that was bound to happen. It would just hurt him in the end.

Alessa did stop by.

"I thought that I told you not to come," he exclaimed as Alessa walked through the door towards his kitchen to make something to drink.

She gave him a smile. It was a smile that infuriated him. "I know what you told me but I think that I should be here. I don't want you to have to face your dad alone. You helped me with my whole situation so I help you with yours."

Logan frowned at her. "It's not gonna be pretty."

"I didn't think that it would be."

That comment effectively ended the conversation although he constantly tried to get her to leave his apartment, but she just ignored all of the comments and continued on with translating the short stories.

Her presence was comforting though, but he loathed to admit it. Besides she was mostly silent, so he was mostly left with his thoughts where a clock was constantly ticking waiting for the moment until the doorbell rang.

It never did.

Once it was time to pick his brother up, Alessa left to pick her brother up.

Now Dan was back. Logan had tried to convince him to work on some type of project at a friend's home but all desperate attempts failed. Dan seemed to be just as determined as Alessa to be some type of support.

Those stupid idiots.

The doorbell finally rang when Dan was washing off the dishes while Logan was scrolling aimlessly on his phone trying to get his mind off things.

All sounds stopped. The splashing of water stopped. The scrubbing stopped. The tapping of his finger on the screen stopped. Everything stopped. Hell he couldn't even hear himself breathing for a second.

His dad had arrived.

In retrospect it was funny. Usually he would have looked forward to seeing his dad and hearing his stories from his exciting work. It always had been the case even when his mom was alive, but now he wanted the man to disappear from earth.

The thought to leave his dad standing outside briefly appeared in his mind, but it would have been of no use. His dad knew that he was there and would probably break into their crappy apartment.
