Jun flipped the page of his manga. It was the latest volume of a popular new manga Jun had never gotten into. So far it was pretty so-so. The art was great, but the story was predictable and the characters were just tropes given form.
"Ah, so that's the big twist," Jun mumbled to himself. "That's actually pretty clever."
He closed the book and picked up volume one of the same series. The latest volume had piqued his interest. Jun figured he should probably get the groceries he came here to buy in the first place. He grabbed some fresh ingredients and a few instant meals, plus some snacks for gaming.
He purchased the manga and food and headed outside. The sun was just setting.
"Hmm, I'll have to do homework before anything else," Jun lamented.
Suddenly, his eyes felt incredibly tired. He blinked a few times, but it didn't go away. He blinked one more time, hard, and suddenly it was daytime. That couldn't be right. Had he blinked too hard? No, more was different. The buildings were Western medieval style. The people were dressed accordingly. There were kemonomimi girls walking around. And his body felt different. He looked down and saw breasts in a too small black bikini top. A quick feel confirmed that he was now a she. Her hair was slightly longer, but still short for a girl, and blue.
Without looking in a mirror, Jun could tell that she was beautiful. She was dressed to show it off too. Aside from the bikini top, she wore a short skirt, a cape, and a witch's hat. Still, she was curious about her overall appearance, so she sought out a mirror. She found one leaned up against a stand of some kind and checked herself out in it. She had been right, she was a good looking lady. She also discovered she had red eyes. She noticed that she was still holding her grocery bag. There was something strapped to her back too, a staff of some kind.
"Hey, are you going to buy something or just stare at yourself?" asked the shop owner.
Jun then noticed that she was at a fruit stand. She couldn't read any of the signs, though.
"Sorry, I'm broke," said Jun.
"Then get out of here!"
Jun quickly hurried away.
"Incredible," she breathed. "I've really been summoned to another world! Now, to find the cute girl who summoned me, though this form may be a problem."
Jun wandered around the town for some time, before deciding to try her luck with an abandoned alley. That was where the greatest "other world summoning" stories started, after all. She walked into the alley, ready to draw her staff if trouble appeared.
Suddenly, she heard snickering behind her and turned to see five thugs blocking the entrance to the alley and slowly walking towards her. They all had knives too. Jun clumsily drew her staff and brandished it at the thugs.
"Stay back!" she warned. "Or I'll flay your skin off!"
"Doesn't look much like you know how to use that thing, girl," said the apparent leader of the thugs. "Tell you what, drop the stuff, including your clothes, and we'll both go on with life."
Jun wrinkled her nose in disgust at that comment and tried to visualize energy flowing out from the staff towards the thugs. A fireball about the size of her head flew out from the staff and impacted the thug second on the right. He burst into flames and fell to the ground screaming and rolling around. The other thugs stepped back. Jun's eyes widened. That had actually worked? She tried again. This time only smoke came out of the staff.
